Darn-blasted contraptions

It being Friday night, and as I can't drive to the shops tomorrow I decided I'd open a nice bottle of 
as the ring-pulls on 
cans are beyond me at the moment 
I ripped off the foil and it's a screw top . We've got a great cork puller that I can operate one-handed but screw-tops..........?$^&*"£&^($%"&^

There was a rather large explosion this morning, it shook our windows. A big bang was followed by a sort of sighing, whooshing, puffing noise 
.
Off course, some people have rung the local radio station to say that they saw bright lights in the sky just before, and one actually saw a saucer 
(this researcher's opinion would be/has been moderated 
).
I think somewhere on Chat Moss there's a crater left by a meteorite. Just when I can't drive over and have a look

I'm back, complete with plastered hand & doped up to the eyeballs. I didn't realise it would be so painful

said that everything went well, they've wired up my hand & to go back on Monday for a new dressing.
I asked the cute anaethetist for a french manicure whilst they were at it, but ended up with a very unflattering shade of orange and they've not done a good job, it's all up my arm .
I've not to lift anything heavy for at least 6 weeks so mine's a and a long straw

That's what my typing will sound like after this weekend 
I've had the call to go into hospital on Friday & they'll be operating on Saturday 
with a bit of luck I'll be out again by Monday complete with a very fetching plaster cast on my right hand.
If anyone wants the gory details, check out http://www.wheelessonline.com/ooa1/1350.htm but be warned it contains photos but basically I'm having a ligament resection and tendon interposition to free up the joint at the base of the thumb.
As I'm going to have even more trouble lifting a than usual these days, 
all round I think
