ILLEGAL FERRETS??????

Post 1

This is the most shocking thing I have heard in a long time!!! i shall start a petition immediately.

I live in France, my "sisgnificant other" is known (to me) as "Monsieur Furet" & i am "Petite Belette" (frogsqueak, sorry!) PLUS i was priveleged enough to share the brief, amusing & mildly savage existence of Felix, a darling ferret who was addicted to cucumber & travelled widely, most notably from UK to the South of France (completely legally, own passport etc...the vet had probs though; he said "er...you tell me where his heart is, they didn't cover this at med school!"

Sadly, he is with me no more (even ferrets don't win when they argue with trucks) but Yoda is. A Siamese of enormous character; she will no doubt squeak for herself when she is good & ready to (& not before).

Do feel free to drop by my space & lurk awhile. My fellow friendly lunatics tend to hang out on my journal space, currently the "Bird's Eye" thread,do say hi.

smiley - cheers fellow ferret fancier!

You know, I think it's ridiculous as well. But alas.

There is a bill going through our senate that is trying to change the law, but it seems that it's a long time from coming. Fortunately every pet store here sells ferret products and most of the vets will see them without reporting to the authorities. smiley - smiley

I would have loved to see your Felix travel around europe! That's fantastic! smiley - biggrin I'd love to be able to take mine everywhere with me, but I think it would end quite badly.

I'll have a look at your space & journal. Thanks a million for dropping by!!!! It's great to meet new people who love ferrets! smiley - hug

Ferrets are legal in every state but Queensland, in Australia smiley - wah.
They are still seen as a pest here....along with rabbits, it is amazing that rats are allowed, but the are so small the kind of slipped through the legislation smiley - biggrin

We took about a week to travel through France, taking back roads (sick small car!) & stopped off at little hotels. Felix got smuggled in under my jumper, shown the room, newspaper put in palce, then we left him to explore & went for a meal. When we returned, he climbed into bed with us a snuggled up (underneath the duvet of couse.) Never any problem, never any mess.

In the morning, he went for a walk on his lead & we carried on. We were on our way to work on a caravan site, Felix was the star of the Kid's Club, gentle as a lamb. He did a lot for the ferret image.

Mind you, when we worked on a farm, he could & would terrify smiley - sheep&smiley - pony if he was in the mood!!!
