actually, i have never shirked lessons. its hard for me to skip school cos i have to be there from 8:30 til 9:30

history; it dates from the time when if one was schooled you either had Private tutors or went to a school open to the (paying) public.
so in the UK we have State schools (Comprehensive & Grammer)which are what you would call Public Schools
&
Public Schools which are what you would call Private schools
It all makes sence to us honest

i guess it makes sense if you don't have the crazy US names stuck in your head already. it makes more sense to me if i think about it in terms of everything being the opposite. don't you drive on the left side of the road too?

yeah (as do over 60 other countries) but that's the original way, it as Napoleon who came up with the right thang. Indecently did you know they drive on the left in the US Virgin Islands (kinda silly cos they all got US spec cars).
