JLC the TTP aka ...It's All Happening!

Hi Kes,
It's good to find old friends in times of loss. I have dedicated some verses of the Rubaiyyat to Douglas Adams on my page. I don't know if it is posting correctly to the h2g2. Get back to me. Missed you!

Hi Kes

I've been writing verse again... this is a little different from the other two, but still about men. *sigh*

Never mind - nothing that a cup of tea smiley - tea and some cheesecake smiley - cake won't cure!

Here it is: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A601228
It's called 'Carbohydrates Cure the Blues'

Hi Ben,

I've put in a link from the Lost Poetry Office to your poem - hope that's OK with you. Know what you mean .... but it would be the sausage and wine for me .....
My mother's response to every announcement of crisis was "Yes, dear, eat your dinner, you'll feel better with a full stomach", and though I always "humphed" at it ... she was right. Another couple of sausages, please ...and a top-up ... smiley - winkeye

Well, your mother was right!

And I have always found that a good cheesecake gives a bigger hit than a gin and tonic!

Feeling much better now, as well... damn that pesky PMS!

Hi again, agcBen,

I read your latest poem .... the images in it are so recognisable ... and the "punch line" carries a hell of a punch. I don't know if I'd say I liked it, but I certainly appreciate what it's saying. Poetry doesn't always have to be liked ... it also has a function when it shakes people up, and gives them a view outside their comfort zone. It's great.

I've put in a link from the Lost Poetry Office. Thanks. Take care; keep well!

Hi Kes,
I've begun reading Don Quijote and have been studying so much to try and get my web page skills up to snuff. The weather has just turned crisp, first night in the low F 50's. I am looking forward to the Camilla garden in Louisiana. I am starting to lose the sadness that has gripped me for so long and looking towards the future with an untethered hopefulness. I have avoided looking at the images and listening to the sad stories about the WTC. I had to defend my self preservationist attitude of trying not indulge and become overwhelmed by the enormous sorrow of it all. A friend recently told me that I think the world revolves around me because I have avoided the details. I was upset and said truthfully that was the first time anyone has ever said that to me. I have to fight to keep from becoming "too affected" by the tragedies around me.I have actually like many been fighting to keep it together like so many in the world during these times.
I want to be live a happier life. I realize I am very much the romantic type who tends to dwell in tragedy. So many poets and artists are like this. I know that I am getting better as I get older and I am happier because I do not let myself get carried away, or let others manipulate my codependent nature. There is a country singer named "John Anderson", who has written many lyrics that are poetic and have resounded in my spirit during different parts of my life.
His first hit wasn't a big one, but I loved the refrain:"I'm just an old chunk of coal, but I'm gonna be a diamond someday!" And I have felt just that way for many years.
Now, on his album "Seminole Wind" there are so many lyrics I can relate to: "Don't Ask her on a straight tequila night, she'll start thinkin' about him and she's ready to fight! Blames her broken heart on every man in sight, on a straight tequila night." The one that I have had the most healing from tells me:"Let go of the stone, if you don't want to drown, in a sea of sorrow, that's bringing you down. It's pulling you under, and you keep hanging on; if I'm ever going to save you, let go of the stone." I am letting go. I hope many hurting people can do so as well. I know it is not easy to do.
Happiness, like any state of mind, is a willful choice. Let's think happy thoughts.
HappyDude has it on his quoting of "To every thing there is a season..." There is a time to grieve, there is a time also for peace.
The peace must start in each of our minds and live in our hearts. We can be happy, there is no shame in letting go and going on happily in peace.
Just needed to talk about it to a soul like you who I know can understand.
Perhaps you could direct me to a happy poem by Robert Frost to bring the cool weather in? I would love a suggestion of happy, toasty, crisp and joyful poems to keep my spirits up.
Worlds of Love,
JLC

Hi again, JLC,

I too have been avoiding "the news", but it is omnipresent and unavoidable.

R Frost would not be my first choice ... but (like all poetry) that's personal ... May I suggest some Walt Whitman?

"Kosmos" is very cheering (to me, anyway)
"What am I after all?" is short and reflective ... I just think it may appeal to you
"As Consequent, etc." is not exactly cheerful, but neither is it gloomy. It certainly fits the current season ...

Good to see you around again ....Keep well.
