Dragonfly. "A poet can survive everything but a misprint"-- Oscar Wilde Started conversation Mar 20, 2001
I did a couple readings for myself last night(still an apprentice, and I think it's quite interesting...), and I bought a couple of books about Tarot today, because the one that came with my cards is written in archaeic language and hard to follow!!!

I found that trying to do a Tarot for yourself is so difficult ... you seem to get what you wanted to hear, rather than something "independent" .... Maybe you could try practising on a few friends to get the hang of it. Yes, some of the books are quite off-putting, but it's all systematic once you get the hang of what the suits and numbers represent. (The Majors, of course, are a whole thing unto themselves, though ....)

Aye... I am so glad I have someone to discuss tarot with!!!
Actually, I think my readings for myself are fairly decent. I really don't get from it what I want to hear-- one time when I first had them, the ten of swords came up, and I was terribly upset.
There remain a lot of holes in my reading, because the Rider-Waite set I was using had that book I could hardly understand, and the Major Arcana were only given a description of the symbolism on the card, which helped little.
In a bit, I think I'll do another reading...
Now, you have your own set of cards!?? Do you keep them in a cloth!?? I never have kept mine in a cloth, but now I am thinking about it...
Yesterday I also picked up two cds-- Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell, and Billy Joel's Greatest Hits!!! YAY!!!
And another book I bought is a DARLING, cute, fat little encyclopedia of the zodiac(east meet west in this one...!!!)

Yes, I have a set ... a Swiss pack, based on an old design. Oh yes, I wrap them in a silk handkerchief except when in use. Yes - I agree, the Rider book is very arcane. The best bit about it is the summary of the minors at the back - where it "maps" the suits and the numbers.

YEP!!!
Interesting thing... the Ace of Cups was the only card left inside the box... I knew it had to tell me something... well... what's today!?? Here, it's Spring Equinox-- new beginnings. And what do you think the Ace of Cups has to say!??
How are you!??

Kes Posted Mar 22, 2001

OOOOOO... YAY!!!
Well, and ace being a one means new beginnings as well... and being a cup, that is a reference to the emotions(water!!! like pisces!!! YAY!!!). Makes sense, with my recent upset/death... time for rebirth and awakening!!! YAY!!!
This milkshake's fantastic... thank you!!!

WOW... the Ace of Cups was quite accurate... I did another reading last night(been since March then....)... This time I wrote down the placement of the cards(Celtic Cross) and then used both of my books to find interpretations. One book is far and away a better guide than the other!!!
I'm glad I wrote out the intrepations as well. Every card startled and amazed me... the frightening thing is that I was told almost just what I wanted to learn... and one of the more "concious" cards was the King of Pentacles... Which is the sign of Gemini... which so happens to be the person I was asking about... someone I do indeed care for very much...
And and and... there was the two of cups and the ten of cups... and the ace of swords... All fit very well with the situation I've recently been in...
So... after this reading, I really have a respect for Tarot-- a bit of fear, too.... in time I'll know if I just found what I wanted to find(I could be reading the cards wrong; as you've said it is hard to intrepret for yourself!!! ). The experience woke me up and finally got me to wrap the deck and keep it some place other than right by the tv...
Just HAD to share with you!!!

Getting an experience like that suggests that you're starting to tune into those cards. It can be quite a surprise the first time, but it's amazing how accurate they can be. Yes, they do respond well to being looked after, so keep them nicely wrapped up!
Thanks for sharing!
