Sun flares
Posted Jul 16, 2000
It was just a tropical storm - didn't get too near...
Only problem was that the email program wasn't working.
Still, my sister had to turn the computer off, just in case...
That really made the storm calm down and eventually subside.
Why is ther always [nah, just almost always] a storm when
we really need to use the computer???
[Just have to remember to record "Sandy & Junior" for my
niece!!! - if she doesn't find it when she gets home,
she'll be upset!!! ]

Basking in the light
Posted Jul 15, 2000
Basking in the light of a child's admiration.
I was playing solitaire on the computer...
After some time, the game just flows naturally, sometimes swiftly...
My six year old niece steps in and watches the cards moving across the screen...
"My, how you're intelligent," she says, and leaves the room. She still is struggling
to learn how to order numbers and do simple sums and subtractions and such. She and
her sister were very good at understanding the principles of math when they were much
smaller -- but schools tend to do away with that.
Problem with some teachers is the "I know so much more than you do -- or can -- or will
ever be able to learn."
I still have to explain my 'solitaire' proficiency to my niece. And tell her she
must learn how to 'build' her own universe. Of course we must learn from others - but
it's so much important to learn how to observe and do things on our own

Foot in the mouth disease
Posted Jul 15, 2000
A most debilitating illness.
Begins with a rumble from afar.
The subject notices something is about to occur.
Suddenly words pour out as lava from a volcano.
Sad.
Science is working on a cure...
One hopes...

The ramblings of the subconscious...
Posted Jul 13, 2000
Waking up in early morning hours,
with a verse, seemingly composed by
my subconscious processes:
"Yeast is yeast, eggs is eggs,
And never the twain shall eat them."
And still half awake, deciding that:
"Yeast is yeast, and eggs is eggs,
And never Mark Twain shall eat them."
might sound a little better...
[don't really think somebody else made
that up... it is too silly ]

Cold, froid, kalt, frio, fredo...

It's quite cold down here in South America these past few days. Snow! How very elegant of us... Some people waking up at three in the morning to see the snow... Not so tropical in the tropics these days
