I guess I should have been more spacific on what I like to read and write and draw. I like sciance fiction. I like to draw aliens, monsters, fantasy characters, and strange or chust different worlds.
I read and write about the same things.

The Myst books - Book of Atrus, Book of Ti'ana, Book of D'ni - just rule. they build up the enire background story for the games.

Hey, those three books are *excellent*, especially the first one, "Myst: The Book of Atrus." They weren't at all what I expected from a literary standpoint, since at first glance to me they appeared to have been written for the sole purpose of bringing the Miller boys a bit more money. However, they are very well planned, well written, and intrieguing (sp?). I just hope they're coming out with a new book sometime soon...

Hi
I just bought the book of Atrus, and the book of D'ni. I didn't get the book of Ti'Anna. Will I be really confused if I don't read the books in order? (Is the book of Ti'Anna about Atrus's Grandmother?) Also how do you pronounce D'Ni?
Drawing eh?
Queitsch Posted Jun 21, 2000
You pronounce D'ni somewhat Duh nii, but the uh is very short and silent. atrus-the younger says in in Riven startup video.
The book of ti'ana is in the middle of the triology, but the book of D'ni plays in a complete other time episode, so it doesnt really matter, i read ti'ana first, then atrus, then d'ni. yeah.

...and Ti'ana *is* about Atrus Grandmother. this is a bit confusing, 'cause her husband - atrus grandfather -is also named atrus, but this is declared in the intros of the books.

I think Atrus (the younger)'s father's name was Aitrus, but it's pronounced the same way. *runs back to bookcase to check* Yup.
Reading the books, especially the first one, helped me understand just *what* on earth was going on in Myst and Riven, specifically the last one. I'm not completely positive as to what exactly D'ni has to do with the games, or with D'ni itself for that matter, but then, I probably need to read it again... and again... and again. No trouble at all.

Thanx!
I think D'Ni has to do with Myst because isn't it where you go at the very end of the game? I wouldn't know though, because I've never gotten that far. In fact, I just found out what the point of the whole game was...

Yes and no. D'ni the place is what you were speaking of, but I was referring to the book. (actually, one never gets to D'ni forever in any of the games, just so you know) The book has to do with a whole other culture that writes Books, but as to how this world and the D'ni (the race of people) are related, I'm still confused.
What would you consider the point of the game? (lovely ambiguous question, isn't it?)

Sorry, but...
Atrus da younger throws the 'junction' (don't know the english word) book to Myst into the star cleft on Riven, as he vanishes into the Book. This is described in The Book of Atrus, I think. As the player of Myst, you find the j book, and enter Myst. The Point is to find out what is going on and not to be trapped by Sirrus and Achenar. In the end of Myst, you find the junction book from Myst to D'ni, where Atrus the younger awaits you.
In Riven, you start in front of Atrus' Table in D'ni, where you are first instructed. So it is set directly after the Myst game. I don't know the ned of Riven, coz i didn't finish. Marble puzzle suchs big time ...
I think.

It's called a Linking Book...
Anyway, yeah, you just restated my point: the aim of the games is never to get to D'ni, rather to get the missing page of the Myst Linking book to Atrus so he can do away with his children. He says at the end of the game that we can explore the worlds of Myst as we please, so we never actually end up in D'ni permenantly (unless, of course, you decide on putting your own little story in between Myst and Riven).
In Riven, you do also start in D'ni, but my guess is that you didn't stay there-- I mean, if it were real and Atrus had given me free rein to explore the other worlds he and Catherine had created, I would. You end up ****ENDING SPOILER (but not really)**** floating around in the Star Fissure at the end of the game, if you did it the way the creators intended you to (there's two alternate endings), and the idea is you're supposed to find your way home the same way the Myst book found its way to you in the Myst game.
Of course, I must be such a loser... I sort of gave up trying to figure out *all* the puzzles in the game (of which there are too many that are much too interconnected) and got the puzzle book to help me through the game. (I had to in Myst: I got stuck in the Mechanical Age and couldn't for the life of me find a way out).
Okay. I'm done for now....

Queitsch Posted Jun 24, 2000
Oh, i found one alternative ending in activating the 'signal' for atrus too early: shall all die.
You *could* explore the ages. I only wanted to say you have the *possibility* to make it to D'ni, and that the two games are continious, somehow.
I finished Myst by myself, but needed a year or so 'cause i got demotivated quite often, and got the cheat book thingie for riven, but still failed. something went wrong.

Hmm... did you use a walk through (the real cheater's way; that is, the way I did it), or more of a hint type approach. (eg, "hmm, there's a switch here, I wonder what happens when I pull it?")?
Drawing eh?
Queitsch Posted Jun 26, 2000
first, the simple cheats. didn't work.
then, the walktroughs. more than one. didn't work.
