Namaste Paul!
Nice to know you are in India currently. Hope you are enjoying your stay. I have been reading your e mails posted by Good girl Lil! Good to know you are making friends and learning more about India.
Yes Indian markets are cheaper than most western countries, still if you take a local friend of yours for shopping, who can bargain in local language, you will find good gifts at reasonably cheap.
Indians are very hospitable and good-natured but when it comes to business, some shopkeepers try to cash in on ignorance of foreigners.
Did you get any chance to play any Indian Instruments like Harmonium, Sitar, Veena, Tabla etc?
You must have heard almost 1000 Hindi Movie songs by now in Chai huts, I am sure! If you are interested in Indian classical music you will need to visit music CD shops in Delhi may be.
Enjoy your Himalayan trek! and have some chai

namaste I just got back had a wonderful time, I know what you mean about the bartering, although its not necessary that you have to be an indian, when Your working there it is so much easier than when your a tourist because you get to know them all and they get to know that they cant over charge you, I found lots of examples of people I met being charged more than me lol.
I didn't get the chance to play any of the instruments but I will try and do that next time
Look forward to hearing from you
Namaste
Oh and I cant stop randomly using hindi words like Thik hai, shabash, jakass (excuse the spellings) etc in random english conversation lol
Namaste!

Hi Paul!
Glad to know you had great time
you did not get food of your choice. Dharamshala is bit remote for that matter but in Delhi and other metros we have many US/UK food malls like Pizza hut, Dominos, Mc Donald’s etc.
Food is such a vital thing in our lives; I understand what you went through. My Brother had been to China on a business trip and had similar feeling as there he had to survive on fruits and biscuits. There weren’t many vegetarian varieties.
Nice to know you speak Hindi words, must be confusing/ amusing for your friends though! Lol
Key: Complain about this post
Namaste!
