Feisor - -0- Generix I made it back - sortof ...

My name is Feisor and I am an ACE (Assistant Community Editor) here at h2g2. It's my job to welcome you to the site and hopefully show you around a little. I AM a real person, not an automated reply not an automated reply not an automated reply smiley - laugh.

Welcome to h2g2 – not just the friendliest on-line community but an incredibly huge, living, breathing guide to Life, the Universe and Everything. It’s compiled by researchers just like you and it's something YOU can take part in. You can write entries on all manner of subjects, and if it's something you think would look good in our Edited Guide (where all the best research goes), you can submit it to Peer Review Take a look at the <./>writing-guidelines</.> for more information on that. smiley - smiley

You have made a great start by opening your space smiley - applause I hope when you get to know us a little better you'll tell us a little about yourself, join in the general silliness and maybe even write for The Guide - but there's no rush - and it's not compulsory smiley - smiley

We ACEs are volunteers here to assist new researchers so if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
You can leave a message on my space just by clicking on my name at the top of this message or by hitting the reply button below - it won't hit back (usually).

I have made a "Hints and Links for New Researchers" page at <./>A719840</.> - if you go there it will lead you to all sorts of places which will help find your way around and get to know this wonderful place. It should keep you busy for a while smiley - biggrin

Oh, and don’t forget to bookmark not only your space but the H2G2 <./>FrontPage</.> - it’s a great way to stay in touch with what’s happening and leads to all sorts of corners which you may otherwise miss.

Do some exploring and you'll find that the site has everything from the nonsense japing to debates on any number of diverse subjects. Many lasting friendships and relationships have been born on hootoo. It's kind of an online pub and encyclopaedia.

I am sure that you will love this community as much as we do smiley - biggrin There's lots of things to see, clubs to join and people to meet - please don't be shy - just jump right in - this is a friendly place. But be careful - it can become quite addictive - believe me I know smiley - laugh

smiley - cheers

Enjoy!!
Have fun!!!
and above all smiley - dontpanic!!!

I've got an article (An Approach to the 3n+1 and Related Problems) in Peer Review. I want to remove it from Peer Review, but I can't figure out how. Could you help me here? Thanks.

It looks to me like you have already worked it out - I can't see it in Peer Review and it's marked "Not for review".

As it says above, you're welcome smiley - biggrin

If you have any questions about hootoo (as we call h2g2) or need any help just drop me a line here and I'll get back to you asap smiley - ok

Have fun

I have an old ID (exit_zero) that I deactivated. I was new at the time and thought that this would delete any articles I had written under that ID. Obviously, I was wrong since the article is still out there. Would it be possible to re-activate the old ID so I could clean up properly? Thanks for any help you can give me.

The only way that you can delete any from that other account is if you can sign into it. Do you remember your sign in details?

Personally, I would just forget it ever happened - no one knows that it's you smiley - biggrin

I was doing a "Browse" on a subject and noticed these "Relevance" numbers for different articles. I was curious how these numbers are calculated. Are they based on how frequently the articles are visited?

To be honest I have no idea how the relevance numbers are calculated. smiley - huh

I don't think that the number of visits come into it.

Why not post your question at <./>AskH2G2</.> where you will reach a good cross section of the community - remember to indicate your question in the subject box smiley - smiley

I'm sure that there is a smiley - geek out there who can help smiley - biggrin

Suppose I write a guide entry that contains something (in this case a mathematical proof) that I want documented as something I've done (to protect against plagarism). Is there any way to do this at h2g2? Normally, I'd go to a mathematics journal, but I've already partially spilled the beans here. For that matter, what's to prevent me from plagarizing someone else? I'm constantly modifying my guide entries and incorporating new material into them (I always give references to the literature). To say that I've done something on a specific date, it seems that I would have to quit modifying the guide entry on that date (and somehow document this). What do you recommend? My articles are too technical to be edited guide entries, so that rules that out.

Hi smallfrey,

Opening an Guide Entry might be the way for you to go, but please be aware that ALL threads are open for others to see, and it will probably show up in a g**gle search.

As you have no intention of turning your article into an Edited Guide Entry, then plagerism *usually* isn't something to worry about. Of course, should you copy and paste entire excerpts is entirely different and could be picked up and modded by anyone reading your work.

I hope this helps smiley - ok

lil x
