Nice work. We'll see about the Astoria entry--I'm getting sort of dissatisfied with it. I'm thinking more about the daunting task of writing up entries for other New York neighborhoods, but I felt I could write the entry on Astoria only because I lived there for two years. I'd really like to write entries generally on neighborhoods neglected by tours and guidebooks (like anywhere north of 125th in Manhattan, or anywhere in the other boroughs that isn't a sports stadium) but all that fieldwork...

The way I think of it is to come up with a nifty little tour through the neighborhood that someone could walk through in an afternoon. For more obscure neighborhoods, you can always cite the things that you like the most, whether or not they are really tour-guide worthy. I think that most people probably have the guidebook when they visit NYC and that your guide entry can serve as an idiosyncratic view of the spot you've chosen. Good luck!
