That's an interesting point, ZenMondo. I wish the politicians in the US would give the War On Drugs a re-examination. Statistics don't support that it's working. What it is doing is putting an unprecedented percentage of people in jail for long sentences, and taxing the rest of us out of our gourd to pay for it. This all seems rather sad to me, when there is so much evidence that drug rehabilitation programs are so much more successful. In the US, you'll be hard pressed to find a drug rehab program that can take you within the next six months. How many of our drug addicts are arrested or dead before their waiting period is up?

I have an e-mail account that barely gets used ([email protected] --go ahead try it I bet I won't reply for MONTHS!) but was subscribed many many many moons ago to a Libertarian maillist. Every once and a while some pretty disturbing e-mails come in about the ratio of people in prison for non violent drug crimes to rapists and killers.
I agree the war on drugs is a huge waste of money & time. Especially the persecution of soft drugs. I have lived in Amsterdam's centrum and have seen first hand how a tolerant policy towards soft drug use can actually work and work well.
"The Drug War" has become an emotional issue to get votes. If intellect was ever actually applied towards the 'drug problem' instead of reactionary histerics we might actually make some progress. The apathy of the Amercian voter depresses me. The idiocy of many who do choose to vote disgusts me at times.
Screw posting the 10 commandments in every classroom in the United States, put up the bill of rights. Those are 10 rules everyone should know.
Oh, dear. I'm rather drunk.

Sorry to interupt. If anyone reading this thread is interested in numerology and other number theories, please do check out my new Journal Entry titled "27, not 42." Oddly enough, I was *not* drunk when I wrote that one. Go figure.
