Hi, just wanted to welcome you to h2g2, and say that my husband also loves linux and hates Windows... So you are not alone. And I hate Windows also. It's evil... Anyway I hope you are doing well, and if you have any questions, just hit reply to my message and ask away!
Welcome, Raymond!

"The Princess Bride is the best movie in the world. "
And, I might add, has one of THE all time greatest sword fight scenes in all of film ("Why are you smiling?" "I am not left handed!").
Thank you for the hello and welcome Very kind.
Welcome, Raymond!

No problem, I love to welcome people. Yes, the Princess Bride's fight scene is great. I can almost think it's real if I try!
Welcome, Raymond!

Hi RLY, I was born in Boston, but much much earlier than you.
Your comments on doubleclick are most interesting -- Could it be that the European banner ad companies are collecting data as aggressively as the loathesome doubleclick.com does over here?

From what I am to understand, DoubleClick was mining viewer information just as aggressively in other parts of the world as they were in the US. They claim to have stopped quite a bit of what they were doing in the past and they now offer an "opt out" so that you won't be tracked by them. You can (supposedly) do that from [Broken link removed by Moderator]this site. From what I have seen the opt out works, but I am no expert on cookies and I would not trust them as far as I could spit a rat. Ummm... aside from those made of molassas. Or chocolate.

Hello there! Just for reference, here are a couple of useful links - http://www.h2g2.com/A344756 (a quick reference guide to h2g2) and http://www.h2g2.com/F617?thread=57497 (a newcomers welcome thread). Enjoy! :-)

Thanks very much
So far this morning I've managed to not get anything even remotely resembling work done since I've been reading all the various posts and ramblings found here. That's well over an hour of fluffing off.
*sigh* Lets see if I can go for a record slack!
Welcome, Raymond!

This is a very common occurence on h2g2... you'll get used to it very nicely if you're anything like me!
Welcome, Raymond!

Reading assorted backlogs and backstories to get the feel of h2g2, that's the first stage.
Then you are overcome by the urge to add your thoughts to some of the discussions, or even become involved in an appealing bit of performance art going on in one of the role-playing or story-like threads.
Then comes keeping up with the responses to the comments you made, along with being folded into the action of the stories.
And then you'll become impatient if responses aren't fast enough for your liking and you'll go forth and initiate discussions of your own or trawl the threads for likely-looking fora...
*looks sympathetic while holding out keyboard* O yes, we've all been there...
Welcome, Raymond!

Last night I had nothing to do, so I was on h2g2 and no one was answering my answers to postings, so I was wandering as you so nicely put it, Asteroid, and I finally gave up and went to bed... Fun times.
Welcome, Raymond!
Raymond Luxury Yacht Posted Jun 12, 2000
hehe... sounds like I am not the only one leading an action filled, wild, explosive existance.
Welcome, Raymond!
Princess Bride Posted Jun 12, 2000
Oh yeah. You would not believe. I had even finished my library book and so had nothing to do. That's the life of a student who has no car...
Welcome, Raymond!

Ah, but I have no such excuse
I'm simply a computer and internet junkie, I'm afraid.
Reality. What a concept!
Welcome, Raymond!
Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence Posted Jun 13, 2000
If all the computer junkies on this site were to move to starboard, Mr. Luxury Yacht would flip over.
Welcome, Raymond!

We are a pretty easy lot, aren't we?
Give me a good fast computer, nice quick download speed and a case of Mountain Dew and I'm just as happy as can be.
Welcome, Raymond!
Princess Bride Posted Jun 13, 2000
It used to take h2g2 FOREVER to load here in the US, but they fixed it now and I am a happy camper... Mountain Dew has too much caffeine for me to handle.
