First of all, there's absolutely nothing wrong 'bout being English - or being English and living in Copenhagen - or even liking it smiley - smiley

As to the language thing (other that I'm glad to hear you've overcome your languaphobia): You *might* be better off sticking to English rather than trying to learn Swedish to get around easier in Copenhagen smiley - winkeye Thing is, ordering beer in anything like Swedish in bars "over here" usually gets Danes thinking "Oh, another Swede trying to escape the confines of the Systembolag country and get truly well p***sed on OUR beer".

Having said that, Swedes IMNO are a) as different as anybody else as you correctly point out, b) can actually be nice smiley - smiley

Anyway, I hope you have lots of good times on H2G2 as well as in our little Kingdom (should that be Queendom?).

Best regards

I don't think there is anything wrong with being English either, thought I had said that?

Learning Swedish is not to help me 'get around' Denmark. It is so I can speak Swedish with my girlfriend, her family and many of my friends. I am hoping that by learning Swedish I can then go on to learning Danish.

Don't worry, I know all about the Danish view on Swedes! I mentioned that I had a Swedish girlfriend to a Danish customer once and she nearly hung up the phone!!!

Then again, if I as an English person can have two very good friends/neighbours who are French. I am sure some Danes and Swedes can get along.

What is IMNO ?

I am having a great time on H2G2, along with Zing.Com (for pictures), Xdrive.Com (for file storage) and Geocities (for websites), I think it is the best site on the web.

Queendom - There are a lot of Queen's here!!!

How come you are 'exACE' ?

Typical me -- I stick my head out and suddenly finds myself in need not only to answer (valid!) questions but also to make myself clear...

IMNO is a typo smiley - sadface It should have been IMHO = in my humble opinion...

The "something wrong" part certainly was a no harm intended pun on the bit you write about "There are many problems with all countries and England and Sweden are no different". I fully agree - and would like to add: "There are a lot of fabulous things with all countries and England and Sweden are no different!"

The exACE thing is an unfortunate thing -- I simply do not have the online time on a regular basis I feel I need to do the ACE-thing as well as I'd like. Just for now -- I'm sitting in front of my home PC actually making corrections to a product launch document I need to have ready for 50 distributors world wide by Friday (well, before Augyst 1 - but there's 3 weeks of holiday between now and that).

So I have stepped back a bit from the ACE group and have subsequently started dreaming about finding the time to join right back in...

The ACEs are a very nice bunch of people smiley - smiley!

And certainly I also have friends in Sweden -- I guess ever since we fought too many wars to count centuries ago we have always made fun about each other...

All the best of luck with your Swedish -- with my "reputation" I will refrain from convincing you that I'm a trustworthy teacher of "polite Danish phrases"... smiley - smiley

Sorry I took some of the things you said the wrong way. As I think you have seen I was spend some time yesterday writing about Roskilde and was in a high emotional state.

I agree about adding the good side to the country comment, shall do that now smiley - smiley

What product launch? Sounds like a very cool job.

The ACE's are great, Cresent did a wonderful job in helping me get the Roskilde Festival article added to the front page. I was so happy. There has been such a great response to it too.

You have friends in Sweden????? Are you sure you are Danish!!!! Sorry had to say that, as it is the same with the English and the French. After the French won the Euro2000, I spoke to my Mother and said that I had been supporting the French side. Well she nearly hung up the phone!!!!

Who wants to learn polite phrases anyway!! Don't worry I will check them out with my girlfriend before shouting them at someone in the street.

/Shaun
