Charles de Lint and Tim Powers
Posted Jun 15, 2000
At the moment I cannot get enough of either writer, although finances being what they are I am mostly limited to the library at the moment which doesn't help. Favourites so far are The Anubis Gates by Powers and Someplace to be Flying by de Lint. I have always loved Fantasy but lately I have really been attracted to "mythic fiction" - stories set in our world (rather than secondary worlds) in which magic is real. Anyone else out there fans?

Texas
Posted Jun 15, 2000
I went to Texas for the weekend for my brother's wedding. I haven't been since I was 12 and had forgotten 1) how big everything is and 2) how humid it is. Growing up in California and living now in England I don't have to spend my days feeling like I am breathing through a wet towel. How do people cope? I could never live anywhere tropical. I am definately a temperate zone gal. However, food was great. My brother-in-law and I decided that we couldn't leave Texas without having a steak so we found this very basic little steak house in Arlington - I think it was actually called the Arlington Steak House - wood floors and walls, wood tables, baseball pictures up on the wall, country music playing, good service (one waitress) and so much food. None of us managed to clean our plates and we had to be rolled out the door we were so full. But they kept the place open until we were finished.
