Diving Puerto Rico
Posted Oct 16, 2002
Dived a site called Crash Boat on the West Coast early October. Local Dive shop (PADI affiliated) was incredibly helpful and showed us another good shore dive. Long thin flattish reef close in to the coast with some amazing sponge formations. Deepest was 15 metres (where my $10 17ft camera still worked). Lots of small fish only.
Crash boat itself is an old pier, one piece of which has collapsed under water. 11m max depth, 46mins gave us plenty of time to swim through all the pier end-sections and drift back again (gentle northerly current). Highlights were a turtle, scorpionfish and a small trunk-fish (an unusual triangular little beastie bit like a puffer). Lots of goat fish, sergeant-majors and various parrotfish.
The water temp was an astonishing 30 degrees C.

Diving

Saturday 7th July
Dived off Lossiemouth for dive 1 (Halliman Skerries). Firsy cold dive in a drysuit. Loads of Sea Urchins. Used up air like it was going out of fashion, but my weights were too much, and I was working hard to overcome them. Dive two was a quick ten minutes on a WW2 Valentine tank in Burghead Bay. At 12 metres down it sits on sand and is still fairly intact (lets face it, it was built like a tank).
A large edible crab was inside the turret and Tompot Blennys around it. Left the crab alone and took a piccy of my buddy sat on the gun barrel.

John Manson
Posted Apr 14, 2001
My friend John died today on the 13th of April 2001. He was the most peaceful, gentle person I have ever known. Steadfast in his love and caring for his family and girlfriend. There are few people who walk this Earth who could compare for compassion towards his fellow man.
John, I can only dream that my first child will have your gentle, caring manner. My thoughts are with you. Till we meet again, rest in peace.
