Lady Pennywhistle - Back with a vengeance! [for a certain, limited value of Vengeance; actual amounts of Vengeance may vary]

... I thought you might be able to help out about this: F1134023?thread=611576

And since I am sure you don't just go about clicking every link that a total stranger posts in your PS, I guess I better supply some background. smiley - biggrin The link is to my journal, where I posted something from a mass-email written by a friend of mine, who's an American student spending a semester in Berlin. smiley - ermSorry, that was an awkward sentence. I can do better.
I have a friend who's in Berlin right now, and sends wonderful long mass-emails from there. In one of them - which I quote in my journal - she tells about a place called Another Country. It's a sort of book-store, but more of a unique experience sort of place... and her description just made me think about h2g2. That's all in the journal thread.

Now, the thing is that a few of the commentors on the thread said they'd like to see an entry about this place, and I think it's a great idea... only my friend isn't on h2g2. I told her she should join, but she has very little time online and I haven't heard from her in a while. That's also in the thread, actually.

Well, since it's been quite long since I last heard from said friend, I thought I might be able to get somebody who's already on h2g2 and who happens to also be in Berlin to check out the place, and possibly write about it. smiley - smileyAnd I found you! How lucky you are! smiley - silly

What do you say then? Any chance you might be able to help? smiley - grovelPlease?

Sounds like a great place. I am doing some googling about it right now (I am presently busy writing my thesis paper, so I am sitting in Berlin's biggest library, where they are having trouble with their internet access, so this might take a while smiley - sadface (actually, the venerable gentleman sitting next to me has just exploded, swearing and sweating immensely...)) So far I have only found the address of that place; it is located in a part of Berlin I do not visit all that often. I have never heard of it before, but I am intrigued. Coming to think about it, English bookstores in Berlin might well be worth a dedicated guide entry...

So, I will check it out (no need for begging), but it may take a while before I can actually get to writing about it. Right now, my thesis thingy has some priority.

(ooh, and check this out: http://www.heyotwell.com/guides/berlin/archives/bookstores/another_country.html)

YAY!!! smiley - hug Thanks!

Neat description in that link too - this really sounds like an incredible place. smiley - biggrin

So... smiley - smiley what's this thesis about, that is so much more important than wasting time doing h2g2-projects? smiley - laugh

Hiya, and good morning - or whatever time it is when you get to read this. I have, of course, not yet had time to check out the book store. Nor have I been working on my ah-so-important thesis paper: my parents came to visit me over the Easter holidays. But since you were so eager to know about that paper... (you can't imagine how often I had to explain it by now. Prospective teachers like me have to turn in a thesis paper that is exactly like an M.A. thesis, only with an M.A., it is all between you and your prof, while with the "state examination" for teachers, you have to turn in your paper to your prof AND to a state-run agency who will grade your paper.) I write my paper for a prof. of literary science. My topic is "John Milton and William Blake in Philip Pullman's trilogy, His Dark Materials". So there you have it. It is about killing me right now smiley - sadface

smiley - biggrinStill afternoon here - good timing actually, as I was just about to log off...

smiley - hugSorry for making you explain the thesis thing once again - and good luck with it! I'm a Lit. student myself, so to me it does sound interesting... even though I don't know much of any of the three writers. Yet. It's always just 'yet', isn't it? smiley - smiley

Okay, must be off now, see you later! smiley - run

I feel honored to be on your friends list. I never quite got the hang of what that list actually does or is good for, but I appreciate the gesture smiley - winkeye

smiley - biggrinYay!

I think it's mainly a way to keep in touch with what people are up to, being subscribed to their journal... then some journals are just insane, like 2legs', so they're always a fun read. And when people add you to their list they can comment on your journal, which makes you feel all popular and stuff. smiley - winkeye
