h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Welcome, welcome, welcome, to the wonderful site of H2G2 (other wise known as hootoo - you will see this word a lot). I am an <./>ACE</.>, and I'm here to help you settle into your new home

I've created a little list of links, just for you, so click here <./>A1159210</.> and have a look at them (actually the links are my daughters...but hey!! Hootoo is one big family )

If you click on each link, they will take you to parts of hootoo no sane person should ever go alone on this site.....

......but as it seems no one here is sane, it doesn't matter does it!

Have a look around, pop into my personal space and read some conversations that I have on the go at the moment and you will see how things work. Don't be frightened to jump in on conversations, hootooers don't bite (well, some of them do, but I'll steer you well clear of those), just be aware of the thread you are reading and whether or not it is a private conversation between two people.

Remember, if you get lost, shout for help and hopefully I'll be around to give you a helping hand. In case I'm not around, just leave a message here <./>ACE</.> and someone will be with you just as soon as they can. Thank you for the welcome. I've always avoided chat room type things because the few I've been too seemed to have been inundated with very rude teens or 20somethings... I found this through PHinisheD a sort of support site I joined while I work on my Post hole Digger degree

I am a bit confused about one thing however, are my postings supposed to be research based with references etc? or just free flow thoughts?

at any rate - time to put my nap-less 3yr old to bed

Firstly, we are not a chat room, we are a "message board". You will find as you explore the site, that we have conversation forums, these can range from Community Chats to Role Playing games

You will find that when researchers are busy, RL does have a habit of interrupting us, that someone you have been talking to, will suddenly resume the conversation again weeks later , or if there are a number of "chatters" the conversation will soon veer off course

Douglas Adams wanted to create a community that is self governing, a living encyclopaedia, with researchers providing the information . If you look at your address bar, you will see a number beginning with F, that is you reference number for this thread. If you are looking at your own Personal Space or into anothers ie mine, you will see a U number there.. I am user (researcher) U551837. Then you might wish to open an "A" page this could be for the Guide, or just something of interest for yourself, then you will be given a random number, but it will be your number only, for the piece you are working on.

While this is all a bit confusing... it is mostly entriguing and fun

I haven't quite figured out if when one says research they are referring to the classical form (i.e., empirical investigation?) or research via opinion.

I posted a short research paper in PR and was informed that PR was probably not the place for my entry - probably because although complete in and of itself it was a preliminary discussion on a larger project.

Anyway - stayed up too late again tonight... need sleep... thanks for the help - I'm going to get my towel and go to bed

That is too funny... it did seem as though a few feathers were ruffled... or perhaps a few towels tangled. I think I need to re-read Adams' Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. It's been so long and so my writing is perhaps a bit foreign and seems to come from a place beyond the restaurant at the end of the Universe (although my life seems to be lived there except without the party!!)

wishing you well... and wishing I didn't have to go to work!

ps... why can't i see/find the smiley icons to add? OK... don't panic... at least I know where my keys are. LOL

So now that I'm getting more of an understanding about H2G2, I'd like to change my screen name from dballetto to something that describes me better... disorganized, sleep deprived, neurotic, (oh wait, that's my dog)... compassionate, opinionated (but always right )... and the queen of a nation: procrasti- ... got any ideas? okay... I've successfully managed to avoid getting ready for 18minutes!!

Oh..

To change your Tag (name).. just go into My Preferences.. and change your tag in there.. then remember to click on Update Details.. for it to stick. You can do this as often as you like.
