I've seen your name on the "Who's online" box before today, so I assume you've had a root around already. Am I right or am I wrong?

When you get the opportunity, do root around. This place has great benefits. Being HTML-illiterate, I find this place a great way to make people aware of things I like without having to use a website. You may find your own adavantages...

i really like the feel of the site, and feel like the people that are in on this are very cool. i know nobody in real life (!!!) who likes any of this stuff, and i really like knowing people like douglas adams as much as i do....

Hey, there's over 50,000 people here, so of course there's gotta be at least a few others who like the same thing as you!
I found that as well. There were always other people into what I was into. The snag was that the people -really- into these things usually didn't stick around here for too long
If it hasn't happened already, you may find yourself making permanent friends here who will alwaysbe ready to lend a hand and talk to you. Isn't that nice?

sounds good to me. there's way too much normalcy around here.... i need to talk to people who have interests in life, not just in money. i fell like i get more cynical and jaded every day.
50,000 people!! good for you guys. that's great.

Have you seen the "Who's online" window? A lot of people still have the old ones, that don't work now, on their homepages. If you go to http://www.h2g2.com/online you'll see it...anyway, from here you can get an idea of how many people regularly come back and visit...most I've seen online at once is 80-odd.
I find this site a bit mainstream too, but I reckons that if they don't take my anti-mainsream then that's though cos they're gonna get it hard!

Well, on the front page there used to be a link to a page where you could turn up, say where you were from in the forum, and it would go up on the page. Thus you had a list of where our researchers came from! However, on checking, it appears to have gone.
Methinks that's a good thing though, as the two researchers who brought that idea to fruit were given no credit whatsoever on that page. The PTB nicked it and passed it off as their own

Well, I'm on holiday in Australia for the next month (I'm in an Aus cyber-cafe right now!) so I'll be even slower! But it'll provide loads of material to write about when I get back. That said, I have already written 114 guide entries...but haven't written on for 7 weeks now *^_^*
*now now Q, don't boast...*
Ah well, anyway, the best way to write a guide entry is to write about something that comes from the heart. It'll be easier to write about, you'll enjoy the writing, and you'll turn out something real good. Dig?
