Hi its me Adib, as you seem to be in the know about Iran, I was thinking maybe we could write an entry about the perception of life in Iran and how it actaully is.
Probabley wont be for peer review but for alternative entrys or some thing?
What do you think?
By the way is your name on her (Nim) short for Nimra, I used to know a girl called Nimra from Pakistan, Apparantly there is a washing up brand over there called Nimra...
Take care
Adib

hi adib!
re the entry - i don't think that would work. i am in a somewhat unique position of being between two cultures, as most other mixed familuies live either strictly european or strictly iranian. i can only talk about what i see and perceive, not what others feel and experience - which is vastly different.
what i tried to do in the conversation about your entry was to offer some facts and balance the impression the media gives to people. unfortunately i have to do that over here too - people forget that the revolution happened for a reason. my father was in political prison for three years under the new regime, and we lost many good and valuable friends during the executions - but dad had been imprisoned during the shah's regime too - twice.
i guess i have a different point of view. when people here rant about how good it is in the usa, i think about the negative reports i have read, or the crime statistics.
i try to impress on people that human beings are the same everywhere, both good and bad. which means that lots of bad things are happening here too *sigh*
another point is that i don't think i can make it timewise i'm already stuck on the teahouse and the related articles, and have 2 big RL projects too. because of chronic illness, i try not to submit to any deadlines, and working with someone else does mean deadlines
so, thank you very much! but i think i'll just lurk about the conversations and mess things up a bit
BTW, "nim" means in farsi "half". "cat" or "kat" is a part of my RL name, plus that i adore cats and sometimes behave similarly (catnapping in the sun ), so as a child i got the nick name "nimcat" or "half-cat". when i wanted a name for my yahoo acount, i used that:
nimcat2000@...
and when i signed in here, it naturally became "nim the cat"

Ok no worries, Just an idea thats all.
Keep on messing up things abit then, though I don't think your messing them up, coming up with valuble information infact.
An I agree that the west and the east are as bad as each other, I got into an argument once with some people who was basically saying that because some countries treat women worse than theres then its alright ot ignore it, till they have changed the woprse one.
I was saying that womens rights should be reviewed and given not just in Muslim countries but also in the west.
I did not know that 'Nim' in Farsi means 'cat', or 'half', then again I don't speak farsi and only know a few owrds of Urdu, which ws a struggle as I recieved an e mail today of someone written in Urdu, thankfully I managed to translate it in to English... just about.
I know that in Arabic 'Nim' means 'tiger' and that 'Nimra' means 'Tigeress', or thats what she told me, The only Arabic I know is classical Arabic as thats what the Qur'an and hadith are written in. An because I don't know the whole of that, I just know enough to read and understand the Qur'an etc.
