Hi nim! I hope your birthday was a good one (even if I am a day late)!
How are you doing with your new roommate -- is she still biting these days? It took me a couple of months to convince Rocket to stop biting me when we played. I'm so glad you got your cat, I know how long you've wanted one.

Thanks! (serves left-over chinese and cake)
Rachel has stopped biting - at least she's more careful about it - but she's been PMSing she wanted a husband, she wanted him *now* and she didn't care who knew about it. Poor kitty - she was in a lot of pain. the only person who could quiet her down a bit was the housekeeper's husband... unfortunately, most places are closed these two weeks, but next week i'm gonna take her to a clinic to get her "fixed". she would be a lovely mother - from the way she "mothers" my hand - but mom is very strict about it. a friend of ours keeps drowning her cat's kittens, keeping only one each time, but we simply can't do that and giving them away to good homes would be a problem too.
anyway, mom and dad and bro went on a trip after my b-day (bro: "why do we have to go on the 5th? why can't we go on the 3rd? we finished our visits, so why stay in Tehran?" at least he made an effort to get me a present - a quarter gold coin)
so i'm being lazy with my kitty not letting me sleep. she wakes me up at 5:30 in the morning!

5.30 in the morning? What a splendid time to catch up with h2g2 backlog!

Hey, Happy Birthday from me too! (I love leftover Chinese. Thanks, don't mind if I do.) I think having the house to myself would be a good birthday present - even if the cat did wake me. Maybe if you fed her something she'd let you go back to sleep for a bit.

*helps herself to some lovely chinese leftovers* Thank you, nim -- great idea!
The luxury of having the house to oneself is prized above diamonds, I think. When I had roommates, it was pure heaven!! All the comings and goings of people around you, when you just want to be by yourself can be seriously frustrating, particularly if we're talking about family!
Hope you and Rachel had a lovely day, nim! Heck, have a lovely day today, too, for good measure!

(arrives at a run)
sorry sorry sorry!
my mom had her second hip surgery, and i had a contract for a book translation... haven't even checked the page for a long time
Happy BDay, nim!!

Oh, good. I can stop worrying about you!
If I understand you, your mom has been walking around on one replaced hip, and one that needed replacing. I remember an elderly cousin grumping that it was a nuisance to be uneven, so I hope your mom will soon be tripping along happily on two matching joints.
Congrats on the new book contract. I have a pile of contracts from orchestras that want me to play next season, but can't send any back until the one that tried to fire me and didn't succeed (you saw my "party" in my journal I hope?) sends me their schedule. I may dump a few of their concerts if they don't hurry. Would serve them right!
We take the new, round cat to the vet tomorrow and find out if he's as healthy as he looks.
Don't be a stranger.
Happy BDay, nim!!

You've had 5 birthdays since I started this convo! I'm so glad to see you back and that you're doing okay!
I hope you stop in and stay for a while, I've missed the folks who drifted away; although I'm happy to see you kept up with the traveling.
