Ah, you have caught me. Sir, like a treen in a disabled spaceship. I read them yonks and yonks ago when I were a nipper, and re-read them last time I was doing the bike-train-bus-bus combo. I'm not sure we have talked about it, your brane is probably ok. I just googled (you didn't think i remembered that quote what with my brane an' all) and this was the 5th one... http://h2g2.com/approved_entry/A245620/conversation/view/F31236/T129653

Well, that just goes to show how you can say things you don't mean to stick to. I lent out both my hardback and paperback copies of 1066 and All That and never got either of them back, so I'm 1066-less smiley - sadface A friend also has my copy of 'Upmanship', but I know I'll see that one again.

Y'know, I've been looking through my overflowing bookshelves for something to read in bed when I finish the current book. I'm not going to wade through Lord of the Rings again just yet, I don't fancy the entire Dune prequels and I'm not in the mood for any Pratchett, but Compleet Molesworth is suddenly looking very tempting smiley - biggrin

I can't wait to get to 'Through Horridges with Gran' smiley - senior

I rather rashly promised smiley - chef at the beginning of last year that I won't re-read. Then broke it this year by reading The Hobbit and LOTR. I intend to read my way through the rest of Tolkien's work.

But I think I may take Molesworth to bed with me. Yikes!

I have a battered old copy of 1066 & Now All This somewhere, but i bought new ones for smiley - chef and The Gruesomes. Although they totally don't get it - not surprisingly since they didn't go through the British school system.

A first edition? You could sell it and buy enuff gobstopers and Dan Dare comics for the rest of your life. I believe that is the ushual thing one does with a million billion pounds.

I'm useless at remembering to use Molesworth-speak - but I do skip along saying "hello" to sheep, chickens, horses etc. (actually, I do it as I cycle to the station in the morning - I hope nobody can hear me)

Jealous of your first edition Celeocanth - I wish I knew what had happened to the paperbooks I had when I was at skool myself.

Nice twitter feed that - am now following.
(remind me, Gosho, am i following you? I'm "at" SheonaG on there)

The first edition is older than I am - 1953, price 8'6! A few years ago I was looking for it for someone else, but then decided I wanted it for myself. I paid a grate deal more than 8'6.

Sadly, skools no longer smell of chalk latin books skool ink foopball boots birdseed and carbolic soap. It's mostly just Lynx these days.

Blimey, 8/6 was a fair few bob in 1953 smiley - yikes

I don't remember our skool smelling much of anything xcept skool dinners poo ur gosh. And it's true what Molesworth sa eg "the moment deaf master sa lord make us truly etc whole skool descend upon food with roar like an H bomb xplosion and in 2 minits all hav been swept bare." Our skool dinners were aktually not too bad. I always went back for seconds of puding and custard.

There's a gurl commentating on the criket i mean to sa whatever next? Matron in gole?

Actually, speaking of gurls, I always found it interesting that St Trinians transferred to film and has become a classic and much-loved British comedy, but St Custards never made it out of the pages of the books and onto any kind of screen, big or small.

It's probably becos Peason's ugly physog would brake the TV screen as any fule kno.

I absolutely adore the old St Trinian's films - they were my role models for when I was at school. I was so disappointed we had kilts & shirts not gymslips!

I must admit I was rather surprised to find all the St Trinian's films on American Netflix, including the first four (but not that awful 70s remake with Joe Melia as Flash Harry smiley - headhurts). I think I know what I'll be doing this afternoon smiley - biggrin Sunday afternoons are made for old comedy films smiley - bigeyes

Gymslips are horrible. We had them at primary school. The ultimate in impractcal clothing (followed closely by the pleated hockey shorts we used to have to wear)

I hated ironing all those pleats in mine.

Did I just say that out loud?
