I wanted to talk to you about maybe making some of your wonderful wooden flowers for us. To give you a bit of background you can check out this blog entry (starting at comment 28).

So, basically we have four pretty blue ceramic flower pots on our livingroom balconies that used to have these pretty flowering plants in them:
http://public.fotki.com/azahar/stuff/flowers2.html
And we'd like to keep the pots there, fill them with sand and maybe have some nice yellow and orange tulips in them. Or if you have any other ideas we are open to suggestion.
What we didn't want was to just stick artificial plants or flowers in them.
The email address I had for you doesn't seem to be working, so I'm contacting you here. If you'd prefer to discuss this off-site just email me at azaharh2g2 (AT) yahoo (Dot) com.

I've no problem replying here, but I've sent you a mail with an invitation to my woodworking photo album (It's semi-private to stop spam, but if anyone is reading this and want's to see my stuff, drop me a line and I'll inflict them on you)
az - if you want to yikes your post because of the addy, go right ahead.

No, that's okay. I put the stuff in brackets to try and avoid spamming or spidering. And anyhow, the same email address appears like that on the front page of my Photo Gallery thread. So what the heck.
Haven't received your email yet - looking forward to it.
Really, you should post a link on your PS to show photos of your stuff.
I reckon shipping might be an issue, but if the flower heads and stalks can be sent to be put together afterwards that might be easiest.
I only thought you might prefer talking price and shipping charges offsite.

oh prices...
I'll have to think about that
as for shipping - I can send them flatpacked (Ikea stylee) with all you need to assemble at your side
Depending on how long you want the stems, and what you have in the way of craft/DIY shops and household tools (I use a dremmel-like-implement for the drilling) you could put your own stalks on.
Right, I've sent a mail with a brief outline of what I have done, and an invitation to the photos (and I really must get my webbie set up again) and I'll wait for what you think.
I've been meaning and meaning to try to sell a flower or two on eBay but I've never really had the nerve.
off to my workroom to see what's what

Okay, we're talking smallish flowerpots (18cm diameter at the top) and so probably shortish 'stems' and possibly narrower tulip flower heads than the ones shown on your page.
Meanwhile, you should try out eBay - it just costs a little to check it out and you might be quite pleasantly surprised by the response. A friend of mine who regularly sells stuff there says it's quite hit-and-miss. One week he might not get any response at all and then the next week he gets overwhelmed by all sorts of people wanting to buy his stuff.

ok, gimme a little while to make a design, and I'll send you a photo.
Eventually I'll get to eBay - it's just that with everything else I have to do and chronic laziness it's hard to find the time!

Hi again! Just letting you know we haven't forgotten this idea but because of the extreme heat and humidity here (as well as direct sun on those balconies) we're not sure if painted wood would actually last that long. What do you think?
Anyhow, while I'm here, wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

how about this
I'll make you somthing sping-like (daffodill? tulip? Daisy?) and send it over, and you can try it out (because I'd like to know too)
My flowers (daffs & dasies) have been out at least a year, and the "grass base boards" ever since I made them (more than 2 years ago) they are starting to get weathered, but that adds to their charm - I think if you regularly change the flowers, they should last a while. (and they don't take long to knock out, and/or repaint )
And let's see how it goes.
Otherwise I think you're looking at metal - or plastic (yeuch) - and I've not advanced onto metalwork (yet)
I've got a shiny new scanner/printer now, so maybe I cold whip up a few designs & get them over to you

oh and, doh, where are my manners
wishing you a lovely Christmas (do you celebrate 25th December and 6th January, or just one or both?)
and of course a prosperous, but above all happy 2007

Why, thank you!
We celebrate the 25th and again on January 7th (my birthday ).
Nog says he's partial to tulips and that's also fine with me. We saw some enamelled metal tulips awhile ago that were nice but the colours were all wrong. We're thinking combinations of cobalt blue/orange/yellow - the ceramic flowerpots are blue.
Noooooooo! Not plastic!!!

right, I'm sawing this week (got a desire to replace my Christmas Balcony Decorations with New Year Luck symbols)
I like the idea of blue, I hardly use it so it will be a nice change.

oh and I tried selling a thing on eBay but nobody wanted it - although the photo was rubbish and it was a bit late. Better luck next year...

ok, I made a tulip.
I'll photograph it, and if you want it we can go to email for the address thing. Then you can see how it suits your pots.
