Hi and thanks for the welkom.

I'll start to bug you with a question right away.

I have an idea for a guide entry I think is useful and I haven't been able to find anything about it jet. Subject: Insect bites, or rather what to do about them. I know for instance that in Romania there are mosquitos that leave bites no lotion will help. The locals advice is to use what we in the Netherlands call Tigerbalm, a cream you rub on sour muscles. I would have liked to know this a few days earlier. Wouldn't it be handy to make some sort of collection of the "homemade" remedies and how would I go about that.

Stella

If you think it's a stupid idea, just tell me.

GOD

Yes, it would be a good idea, there is a fairly large black beetle in the sands of Afghanistan, that creeps into your home or tent, injects a venom that paralyses you, then proceeds to munch on your flesh...

...I don't think THEY would consider it trivial... smiley - bigeyes

BTW The wonderful world of on-line is the ideal place to gather information of that sort, I would seek out University Professors who work in that field... smiley - smiley

I was more thinking of the lesser known but very useful facts for travelers.

For instance:

The south west part of the Netherlands attracts many tourists because it lies by the sea. A little bit more inland there are lakes and here to a lot of tourists come. However for the last 10 years these more inland area are an arachnafobics nightmare. 10 years ago there was a mosquito plague in the area and the local gouvernment decided to put out spiders to keep the mosquitos under control. They did. They liked it there. They decided to stay and multiply. In very great numbers. Not that the spiders are dangerous, they will only bite when they feel treatend, but the sheer number of them is alarming. A friend of mine lives there and she has to get a broomstick every morning and sweep the spiders and their webs of the door if she wants to leave the house not looking like she's dressed for halloween. (I believe the gourvernment wants to set out birds now to controll the spiders).

A tourist, who happens to be terrified of spider, reading about the nice sayling/fishing/swimming and the nice summers we sometimes have here, might find this interesting too.

I mean when you go to the travelagent to get some information about sweden, they never tell you that if you go to that particular lake you have to be happy to dress youself in mosquitonetting for the entire stay.

I thought we (hater of insects) could help eachother out on these facts.
