I agree with you.

I don't want to get too involved out in the open as I'm quite new here in terms of scouting. Please email me and I'll be in touch tomorrow.

If you need the address again, let me know here.

I'm sorry, Phred, some things are out of order and I know you're a good guy. Thanks for letting me know.

Hey Skanky...your tone thoughout this discussion has been pure integrity and high road all the way...but just I'm tired of watching reviewers behave this way. It's wrong and it fails completely to consider the impact that it has on real people who make less than stellar posts. The last round of discussions the biggest bullies kept asking for examples...and I didn't post these...I just copied someone else's post.

I've got your e-mail address thanks...but I've made my point.

I'm with you, Phred, having read the posts you refer to. These posts fail the whole PR system and our Code. I'm sorry you've had to plough a lone furrow so far, and hope you accept my apologies for Scouts behaviour. I look forward to continuing to recieve your inspiring journals, friend.

Skanky,

You remind me of my favourite farside cartoon.

A farmer is holding an axe and looking at his flock of turkeys. One has a VERY long neck. The farmer is asking himself "Allright. Who's it gonna be? Who's it gonna be?.

I'm not sure if I'm the turkey or farmer, but either way hope thats a good thing smiley - ok

The last post by a chronic abuser reminds me of two southern US sayings.

"Give him enough rope and he'll hang himself"

"If you throw a tin can down a dark alley and hear a pig squeal, you know you hit him"

I think that this has been a productive discussion and I think that your posts were very wise and mature and set the tone for the way the entire online conversation developed. It made some people think about their values or at least about the h2g2 guidelines. smiley - smiley

Good question about whether I see you as the farmer or the turkey...you seem to have emerged as the farmer in my mind. smiley - laugh

I'm glad you brought this to the fore and that I was able to be some help. Thanks for bearing with me while I worked out what was going on; seems I was incredibly naive in thinking all was well, I don't read every single thread in PR as I don't have time to comment on all of them! Like anyone, I tend to read entries that interest me. If I'd known about posts like this sooner, I'd have certainly had a few choice words to say in the scouts email group.

I think I'm glad I'm the farmer smiley - biggrin

I've just noticed you've applied to join the Scout scheme - good, I was going to suggest that very idea to you smiley - smiley I've just been through the new entries in PR, and found that there's very little I'd say that you haven't already. I'm sure you'll get in!

Cheers,

MacSkanky,

I have a problem. Paully gave me a nice new scout badge about a month ago.

I got an invitation to join the Yahoo Scout discussion back and sent a reply message, but I never got an invitation directing me to the Yahoo discussion forum.

I told Paully and he got me another invitation. I replied four times but never got a response.

I checked all my Spamcatchers and found nothing.

Next I sent an e-mail directly to Paully but I haven't heard back.

Any ideas?

Hmm, that's really odd. Can you click on PR entries and recommend them, or not?

Paully does have a lot to get on with, but has missed the odd email from me before. I'd re-send it if I were you, if it's been a few days without a reply. If you don't get a reply, try me again; I don't exactly have his ear, but I could press your case if you like.

No That's OK. I just thought I'd ask for your opinion. Hope things are well with you.

Doing any climbing lately? Camp Counseling? Still smoking?

How many entries a month can a scout recommend?

Is it true that each scout has an assigned date on which to recommend entries?

On entries more than a week old, a "recommend entry" button is appearing in the area on the right. I'm guessing that's the button to push to recommend and entry for Peer Review.

Wow, just been to the Lakes, up a mountain or two, and sadly still smoking smiley - sadface Can't win em all!

Scouts can recommend four entries a month, though two is usual. When you're in on the email, you'll get a reminder to pick two on a particular day - this isn't *strictly* enforced, but ensures the subs get a constant flow of entries to view. The extra two are in case you find something that really should have been picked by now smiley - smiley

Hope this helps; am trying to catch up on the backlog of five days away so feel free to post back if I'm being too brief!

Hello again!

Sorry, am not posting on here too much at the moment; am mainly subbing and Scouting behind the scenes due to a few RL issues I need to get to grips with...

Anyway, the reason I'm posting you here again is because I've just started working for smiley - thepost as regular features editor, and was wondering if you'd be interested in submitting some of your road trip to a wider audience?

If you could provide us with a precis, however close it is to your journal entries, every couple of weeks it would be great to give you a regular column. I'm sure many of our regular readers would love to read your updates from the road, they are pretty inspiring. If you're interested in creating a diary rougly every fortnight based on your experiences, I'd love to be able to put it in. We'll even do the formatting for you!

Let me know, Phred, and keep the journals coming smiley - smiley

Hi Skankyrich,

I've just pulled back into my home to spend the winter in Florida so my travels are over until next Spring.

However, I'd be glad to rework some of the things I did on the trip I've just finished....and try to stretch it out until April or so.

As you know I posted a number of photographs to supplement my writing. I hope that these links would be acceptable in a regular Post feature.

I'm very flattered that you think my rambling accounts might be of interest to a wider audience.

Let me know and I'll send you installments.

I think a wider audience would certainly be interested in your travels, Phred smiley - smiley Think of all the TV travellers who make a living from those who do their travelling from an armchair...

I've only just started as 'Regular Features Editor', but as far as I'm aware we can use a photo in a Post entry - there was some discussion on the group as to how we go about that last week - and we can certainly link to online picture archives.

I'm delighted that you're interested, I'll tell you where to send submissions when I have a little more time. Thanks very much!

OK, Phred, please send any submissions to the 'Post Box' link you'll find on U54963 - there is also some good advice for contributors at A933897. The deadline for each issue is the preceding Sunday at midnight GMT - a week on Sunday for the next one (4th December), and every fortnight thereafter - but there's no pressure to get started.

Will be great to have you with us; let me know if you need any help with anything and I'll ask about photos in the meantime.

smiley - cheers
