Did you manage to get a train OK?

PS the shirt was not that bad!!!
Hello there
Uncle Heavy [sic] Posted Aug 13, 2001
the shirt wasnt that bad eh? hah!
i seem to be getting this reputation here as a sartorially challenged booze fiend. well, its not true, ok?
i did get home eventually just in time for the headache to start...
apart from that it was really good. even better, though, are the big ones, cos there are loads of people around and you may even get to meet people youd met before...sadly the next few big ones are happening when im at school...they dont let me out at weekends there...

Join us in the Lighthouse Bar (and probably the Main Mess Room) on Monday 20 August for a food, drink, music, dancing, general merriment and debauchery
The Captain has said we can beam guests on board for the occasion so please feel free to bring guests (although we will not be able to guarantee their safety )

Hi
Who would not be pleased to go back to Winchester! (OK so I would not since it would mean moving back home )
So which pubs do you go to? The Royal Oak, The Eclipse, The Wycombe Arms, Black Boy and what were the other two by the Cathedral?
I have had some great news this week - I have a new job
Hello there
Uncle Heavy [sic] Posted Sep 22, 2001
congrats on your new job! what is it?
you come from winchester eh? its a nice place, but a little staid after a while...
The royal oak i hate...theyve got really anal at the bar and ask for id and its all a bit corporate. the wykeham is forbidden to me cos all the dons go there of an evening. The eclipse i got turfed out of...that was the last time i brought friends without facial hair to a pub, rich or not. the black boy is a lovely one, my favourite, but its a bit iffy in term time, cos the more sprightly teachers go there.
others by the cathedral...the bakers arms i go to often, and the old market i go to infrequently.
thus im left with going to the white swan which is bl**dy miles away. but i aint going out this evening cos i got no money
if you see ive begun an article on winchesters pubs, which is held back only by my huge laziness...
do you think im a little too interested in winchesters drinking facilities?
Hello there
Lighthousegirl - back on board Posted Sep 22, 2001
Is it possible to be too interested in pubs?
My new job is as a HR Manager again but for a big blus chip company in Birmingham and I am really excited about it
I grew up in a village about 10 miles from Winchester and went to 6th form there so got to know the pubs
The Oak was cr** when i was there too - known as the joke. The Wycombe arms was more a place we went to once we had all moved away. The Eclipse was good, and the old market was a fave as was the black boy. White Swan was not good in my day but got better and became my little sisters fave. I will check out your article when I get a chance
I am broke atm too - it sucks - this month is going to be expensive too as there is lots I have to get sorted for the new job So tonight I will go to a friends for supper - how exciting is that - not!
Fancy a virtual ?
Hello there
Uncle Heavy [sic] Posted Sep 22, 2001
yes seeing as all my callous friends are out having real ones...its not them refusing me, its my own natural self-restraint.
i dont see the old market being a fave here, but i quite like the barman...
mostlt, being rich wykehamists, people go to greens or the gaolhouse or the roak. they have too much money.
which village do you come from? and you must have gone to symmonds, right?
Hello there
Lighthousegirl - back on board Posted Sep 22, 2001
* sips a virtual G&T *
The Old market used to be quite a happening place - hard to believe I know! As for Greens or the Goalhouse - eaak I dont know them! I worked int he County Arms near the firestation and hospital one holidays when I was a student - very much a locals pub.
I grew up in Beauworth - its near Cheriton. All there is in Beauworth is a reasonably good pub - called the Milburys. I worked there while I was in sixth form and then most holidays while I was a student.
Yes - guilty as charged - I went to Symmonds and I really enjoyed it.
And here is one for you - My cousins husband used to teach at your place!

the milburys...i know it. i went there for me mums birthday once. nice place. they were having a harley davidson get together there. the skittle alley is good i think.
