Many bands are associated with the goth culture by the media and random speculations of the general public, but are in fact nothing to do with the goth genre. These inlude Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Cradle Of Filth, HIM, Nightwish etc
General rule of thumb is that if it sounds like heavy metal, nu metal or ugly noise, it's some kind of metal, not goth. There is no such thing as "goth metal" "nu goth" or "neo goth"
