Hello Mr. Czar, I just thought I would pop round and say Hi properly outside of the sarcasm thread. I hope you don't take me too seriously! I read your piece on the evacuation of Guernsey, it is very interesting. I did my first degree in history, with a great deal of focus on WWII so perhaps we should have a proper chat sometime. Pop round to mine if you feel like it or leave a reply here. GUIDE ML is really easy to get to grips with the basics, its a little different to HTML but similar in many ways, I'm sure you'll have it down in no time. Nice to meet you! DDN

Hello Dandanorff. Thank you for your message. I must say that all my postings to h2g2 are done with tongue in cheek, and I assume that others do likewise.
When I wrote to WW2 I did not realise that a reference to it would be shown on my personal space on h2g2. It contains some information that is not known to most of my friends and acquaintances, because I do not like to look back into my early life.
I must say that as a result of being educated in Scotland I did have a very good education.
It is a matter of time to get my head around to HTML and/or GUIDE ML, Although I am retired I am still involved in some voluntary duties which fills part of my time.
Feel free to contact me anytime.

Well your account is there for the whole world to see now Czar smiley - biggrin. Good, just thought it good manners to check. I hope people do not get too offended by comments there, after all sarcasm is the lowest form of wit after all. Usually I would consider it extrimely bad manners and a breach of good netiquette to write such things but, well it is the sarcy thread and as long as it doesnt breach the rules or get too personal I think its just a bit of fun. I am abit of a newbie here but it is an interesting and friendly site would you not agree?

What is it like living in Guernsey? I know very little about the place?

Hello Dandanorf. Did you have any luck on any of the Guernsey sites?
Are you O. K.? Haven't seen any postings from you recently, but perhaps you have been busy. I have been having trouble getting through to the various threads. Connections were very slow at times. Hope to hear that you have found something of interest on those Guernsey sites.

At the risk of being rude - can I butt in. I am fascinated by your contributions to the various threads. Other than sailing through the Alderney Straits on a dark and stormy night and watching a rather large aunt being thrown from side to side of a somewhat small boat - vomiting copiously - I have little actual knowledge of the Channel Isles. I had my education beaten into me at a minor (direct grant) public school in the middle of England.
That said I would love to talk further.

Dear Sir
Yes - I did check the site - thank you. Actually I had been there before looking for something one of my students was interested in. There should be more about the wonderful cows you have on those islands - if there are any left. It was a Guernsey that I learnt to milk at the age of about four.
