Idle Rich?

As on old accountant to another, first off, I don't see either of us as being idle. We share an interest in walking and h2g2 and I'm pleased to see your volunteer work with "special needs" childen. You belong to the Constitutional Monarchy Association and I to the Viet Nam Veterans Against War.
Second, I'm not exactly rich. My money "burn rate" for this retirement trip is actually very low and I'm saving some money by not using utilities in my home. My admissions to National parks is free and the campsites are half-price (as low as $3.50 a night) because of my advanced age and tendency to dodder about.A major expense on this trip is food, but you have the same expenses.
Gasoline is the only other variable expense of any significance. This will be a 5,000 mile trip at ten miles per gallon at about $2.75 per gallons. I figure this two-month trip will run about what two weeks in modest hotels in Europe would cost.
Anyway, thanks for the retirement advice a few months back. I'll try to live up to it.

Good heavens Phred!
Was I rude enough to call you Idle Rich?
I can't remember having said that! You've got me worrying about my poor memory now. Did I even say it in a jocular context? I've looked through my postings and can't find where I wrote the phrase.
If I have offended you, please accept my apologies.
The terms 'rich' and 'poor', as you will be aware, are all relative in this world of ours, where millions starve to death without food, clothing and shelter. And I suppose the term 'idle' is itself a relative 'condition'. There are those who have to labour night and day to eke out a subsistence existence, hardly a 'life' at all!

'Twas thee, Phred, who called me a member of the idle class!
But you are correct in saying that! I am relatively 'idle'; you've only to ask my dear wife Pat to get that confirmed!
