Gnomon - time to move on Started conversation May 23, 2010
I'm subbing your Entry on the Harrow Rail Disaster at A66481617.
I'm somewhat puzzled by it. You say that the Tring train was approaching on the slow line, and that the Perth train was accepted on the fast line. But the Perth train ran into the back of Tring Train. This means it was on the wrong line. All your description of the accident talk about it failing to stop at signals, but surely the cause of the accident was that it was on the slow line rather than being on the fast line where it was supposed to be?
Or am I misunderstanding this?

Sorry I missed out a part, The signal Man switched it on the the fast line Because that was the Timetabled action

Would you suggest a few changes to incorporate that into the Entry, please? I don't know anything about signalling and switching, so I won't be able to write that part.

"The Perth train had been delayed at Crewe and was over half an hour late. The Harrow signalman decided to run the 7.31 ahead of it. He set the crossover to send the 7.31 onto the Up Fast Line as scheduled.

Why did he do this? Was there only a platform on the fast line?

Becuase the train was scheduled to do so

So both trains were scheduled to go on the same platform. They just happened to arrive at the same time due to each being delayed.

I've another question.
You refer to one of the engines as "Windward Isles". But the link you provide goes to a page which calls it "Windward Islands".
Which is correct?
Other than that issue, this Entry is ready to be returned to the Editors for publishing.
