Those were the days...
Posted Aug 1, 2000
Somebody ever got the feeling that the best time of their lives is over? I just realized that I spent my perfect days more than six years ago, and that things will never be the same again. Not that I was particularly happy then and not that I am particularly unhappy now. I just got a feeling that I lived my live then as I wanted to live it, and live it now as I think (or perhaps other people think) I should live it. Most of the time you are not free to live YOUR live. It was that special time in my live, when I could be free, but I didn't realize it until now - I didn't realize THEN that I was free. Isn't that just silly?
I am going to spend a really melancholic week.

On holiday

I will spend the next week on Menorca. I think it is a good place to spend a week there. I hate the feeling not to see EVERYTHING of the places I go, but for such a small island one week will be enough, I hope.

Germany
Posted May 15, 2000
So this was the first day I really had time to search the Guide a bit - and the first idea that came to my mind was to see what I can find about the place I live. Perhaps this is not quite a creative thing to start with, but as I spent to much time in the sun yesterday, my brain doesn't work at its best.
Well, what did I find about Germany? A few little entries about the german wall, Hitler, Lederhosen and for some reason the Berliner Ensemble - seemingly thought to be funny but being really boring and quite unkind. Some more sophisticated entries about Sauerkraut and Schrebergaerten and about a dozen articles on German cities - I didn't read them all. And of course, everybody who wants to say something positive mentions beer and cars.
But I am a bit shocked about finding all the old prejudices collected on this site. I thought the researchers would be a little bit wittier. But perhaps nobody really ever went to Germany (which I can understand, because I do not spend my holidays here either). And the german researchers perhaps have some more interesting things to write about than Germany. So have I, but perhaps some day I will write an article about my home country. Just to prove that not all Germans are the stupid and ill-humoured people everybody seems to think they are.
