In Which I Discover Myself Online
Posted May 10, 2000
Today I found that I am somwhere between a Cab Driver ( http://www.disobey.com/netslaves/manual/lesson_02_06.shtml ) and a Fry Cook ( http://www.disobey.com/netslaves/manual/lesson_02_07.shtml ). I found these disturbingly familar.
Perhaps it really is time to go be an actor for a while even if it means a significant cut in pay.

On Being Alone
Posted May 6, 2000
It sucks.
There's not much else to it. I don't like being alone. The dog just doesn't stimulate the way my friends do. Rosebud is a lovely, ancient, cataract ridden mutt and I love her dearly. She's just a lousy conversationalist.
All (and I mean all) my friends are gone. If they're not in Austin they're on the other side of Houston or the whole d@#% county.
Soon I'll be in Sterling, New York with my actor friends doing actor things and making people laugh. Right now, I'm in Houston with my office mates(1) doing office things and trying desperately to laugh as often as possible.
It sucks.
Life's only joy is making people laugh. The joy of the dance -- expending ridiculous amounts of energy just to entertain. There's no greater rush and I have to wait another two months before I can do any.
It's relaxing to have a creative outlet of some kind. Writing is quite my cup of Lapsang Souschong(2) but it will do. Now if I could just get some actual sex I'd be OK.
(1) For those of you who don't know, office mates are rather like room mates or cell mates. We don't get to pick them and they're not particularly close, friendly or even tolerant.
(2) A kind of tea -- bitter, dust like, and probably misspelled.

In Honor of a Moneymaker - The Elianito
Posted May 2, 2000
In order to honor the tortured little Cuban boy whose life has been so permanently screwed (and skewed) I've decided to invent an alcoholic beverage in his honor.
Why honor him?
Having spent the past seven months doing web development for the Houston Chronicle (http://www.chron.com/) I realized that a good portion of my paycheck was a result of Little Elian's news traffic. Since the news media accomplished this by making him an international spectacle (and probably psycopathic as well) I think I owe him.
Why a drink?
A long tradition in western culture. If we can't actually do anything about a travesty, injustice, shame of our entire country, whatever; why then we just drink to it.
The Elianito:
Serves: 1
1 1/2 oz Golden Rum
1 teaspoon lime juice
cola
lime wedge
cherry
Basicly it's a Cuba Libre with a cherry. For an added political statement crush the cherry and stir it to the bottom of the glass.
If I can't acctually rid myself of guilt over my industry's actions I can at least drown it in poignant alcohol.
