There are a few other Canadian connections as well. Unfortunately right now the Canadian Researchers' Club is kind of stuck as the manager of the page has disappeared.smiley - sadface

How does this whole peer review thing work? When suggestions/corrections are given, who winds up actually changing the guide entries?

In a nutshell:

You (for example) write an entry on Saltspring Island (for example) and submit it to Peer Review by clicking on the "submit for review" button and following the instructions. Then you wait for people to make suggestions and, if you like the suggestions, you make the changes. After a week scouts will start to consider it and once it seems like all the suggestions have been dealt with, either by adoption or rebutle, if a scout likes the entry it will be recommended. Shortly after that, a new copy of the entry will be given to a sub-editor to polish up (they'll probably talk to you about it) and when they're done it gets put into the queue to appear on the Front Page. The whole process can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months depending on factors which no one seems to understand completely.

It is a good idea to mention when you submit your first entry to Peer Review that it is your first entry: that way people will phrase their suggestions in encouraging ways. Later on they become brutal.smiley - winkeye

Saltspring Island is a great idea! Did you know it was one of the many end points of the underground railway and to this day has descendents of former slaves? (That and the whole salt springs thing which is a bit obvious...) It also would allow the unedited use of the phrase *Burgoyne Blow* which I took advantage of many times in my youth! smiley - laugh

I've just been deputized to the Canadian Researchers' Club page pending the return of Lonefaery. Hopefully I can get caught up as quickly as possible, but it may not be until early in the new year.
