Quaich

That's one of the most boring pages I have read so far.

Try and spruce it up a bit laddie.

Hi there... ~grin~... Me has just read your page... and me didn't fall asleep... so maybe it's not as boring as you think...

Boring.

Post 3

Quaich

Well, you know, I'm glad to hear that. Especially coming from a cat which, as you know, spends at least 16 hours a day sleeping.

It is distinctly lacking in content though. Perhaps I'll rectify that within the next ... er ... few years.

NOT boring.

Post 4

GreeboTCat

~Big grin~... Well maybe you should write some cat facts down... let everyone know how long a cat sleeps... ~grin~...

Me honestly don't think it is boring you know... some researchers don't even bother to write anything... now that is boring... it takes time to get a homepage going... look around h2g2... you'll find plenty of inspirational ideas... go on.... me belives in you...~Greebo grins extra wide~

NOT boring.

Post 5

Quaich

I'll do that.

Perhaps when I add a bit more to it I can upgrade it to

smiley - sadface Somewhat uninteresting page

then parhaps, over time, move up the following scale

smiley - sadface Slightly uninteresting page
:-| Page somewhere between uninteresting and interesting
smiley - smiley Slightly interesting page
smiley - smiley Somewhat interesting page
smiley - smiley Interesting page
smiley - smiley Very interesting page

and finaly, over many years of hard work and trianing, to the ultimate

smiley - bigeyes Mind bogglingly interesting page.

Of course, as with any worthwhile grading system, the page should only be upgraded after close examination and review by those of a higher grade.

~Greebo laughs outloud~.... Oh you have a very interesting wit you know... and me does love it so... ~grin~

Me is highly qualified to judge your page you know... me is an ACE after all... and me has seen many... many pages... of many... many years... ~grin~... er... hopefully you won't remember that h2g2 has only been running for a year...

NOT boring.

That, of course would be seven cat years, which is pretty close to "many... many years".

I would be delighted to have you Grade my page Sensei Greebo, or more accurately Greebo Sensei.

What would you find more interesting to read?
1) What a Quaich really is and what it isn't.
2) How to not succeed in Karate by not really trying.
3) Things to watch out for when moving from the UK to work in the USA (California) for a couple of years.
4) Things to look forward to when moving from the UK to work in the USA (California) for a couple of years.
5) Other. Please specify ______________.

Option 5 is so much kinder than 'None of the above,' don't you think?

Post 9

~grin~... See now Joanna had agreed... you are NOT BORING official... ~Greebo produces a small rubber stamp and an ink pad... she places the stamp in the ink and then uses the stamp on Quaich's forehead... leaving a permanant NOT BORING mark...~

One thing though... ~Greebo puts away the ink and stamp...~ Me would like to know what you name means...

Quaich

I do truly appreciate my NOT BORING status. However, I did get funny looks when walking down the street this weekend with a NOT BORING mark stamped on my forehead, so I decided to put your definition of 'permanent' to the test.

Soap and water, obviously did not help in the slightest.

Various flavours of alcohol (palatable and otherwise) had no effect at all.

Other general household cleaning goods were also unsuccessful at removing the mark. Even Quick'n Brite didn't make a dent.

I even tried some mild acids to no avail.

Since surgical removal is not an option I would like to explore I gave up trying to remove the mark and decided to let my hair grow a little bit to cover it up.

I'll tell you this though, my forehead has never been so squeeky clean.

As to the meaning of Quaich, I will very soon update my home page to describe what a Quaich is and just how I got around to having that name.

Agreed with Greebo & Jo, not boring, as for Quaich, please do not tell me that your face is round and shallow with two ears that stich out like handles. Either that or you fill your mouth up with whisky and go around kissing people, calling it a 'Loving Cup'!smiley - smiley

NOT boring.

Post 12

Quaich

The reference to whisky gives you one point out of a possible three. Although the image you presented was not quite the image I was trying for, smiley - smiley, I do enjoy filling my mouth up with whisky. Well not that full actually, but close enough.

Care to try for the other two points?

I used to know someone years ago with your (real) name.
Other possible reasons for Quaich could be:
Pet name (from childhood)
You give them as presents at weddings

As for boring, did you know you appear to have 2 pages. Now the other one is boring!

NOT boring.

Post 14

Quaich

So where does my real name show up?

Quaich is of course a Scottish word. As you already know, a Quaich is a traditional scottish drinking vessel, traditionally filled with whisky.

The 'ch' is pronounced as in 'Loch' as a scotsman would say it.
Reputedly, and englishman would pronounce 'Loch' more like 'Lock'. This englishman would also pronounce 'Quaich' more like 'Quake'.

So Quaich fits me reasonably well because
1) I quite like to drink whisky (though rarely to excess).
2) I am scottish
3) I play Quake too much.

(Quaich is the name I play under when battling against my colleagues on our internal Quake 3 Arena server.)

As for the second, truly boring, page. That seemed to appear when I tried to change my e-mail address in my account settings. I suppose I should notify someone that that account can be deleted. Any clues as to who that should be?

Ah, silly me I should have guessed really. Where abouts in the UK are you?

As for the other page, drop a line to the ACE's with the details, somebody like Abi might be able to help. Go here: http://www.h2g2.com/A214796
click the 'Discuss' button and leave a message. Someone will get back to yousmiley - smiley

Post 16

Quaich

I have left a post at the ACE's home page as you suggested. Thanks.

Actually, I am currently enjoying an extended stay in sunny California. When I have overstayed my welcome I will move back to the not so sunny 'Kingdom of Fife'.

Post 18

Probably somewhere in the vicinity of Dunfermline.

So, am I the JT you once knew?

Interesting, I am in D.B. myself.
I don't know, it was a long time ago, at Uni. but probably not.
Just coincidence, I know a few J's and a few T's too, or rather did, having not kept in very regular contact with people from uni, due to having spent a year in Oz after graduating. you come back and most people have disappeared into oblivion.

NOT boring.

Post 20

Quaich

D.B. would indeed be somewhere in the vacinity of Dunfermline, and infact would have been a more accurate answer than I gave. I know D.B. very well. Say hello to my most favourite chinese carry out, the Regent, which I miss very very much.

As I didn't strictly speaking go to uni, then you are probably correct. I did go to college though.
