Wrong turns
Posted Apr 26, 2000
It's amazing how much time one can waste staring at a computer screen when one works in an office. After a while, pages like H2G2 become essential for the periods of time between actual work. Long load time? Have a Guide page loaded up and read it. Finished every meaningful project you can do in a particular hour? Load up the Guide and read about mixed drinks created by mentally deranged alcoholics and sadists who are hoping someone will try their recipe just so they can find out what happens when some fool actually drinks it.
What I don't get is all the complaints about how hard it is to get an approved Guide entry. What difference does it really make if you're approved or not? You're in the Guide regardless. Approval is just a bonus, a pat on the back if you will. Every piddly, silly, or even whiny forum post is preserved, and anything and everything can show up in a search.
Guess I'll have to lovingly craft a few Guide entries to submit and have my hopes dashed to pieces by the cruelty and apathy of the underpaid editors before I'll truly understand.

One Big Mall
Posted Apr 16, 2000
Hot, tired and thirsty, we straggled in from the outside world and into the world of American commerce and style. A mall. Damn big one, at that. Drinks and snacks, bad clothing and constantly changing air temperatures. Amazing how spending a few hours there wore me out faster than the same amount of time on a hot renaissance fest site.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
