What was before the Big Bang?
ITIWBS Posted Apr 29, 2008
The first evidence for the big bang was Edwin Hubble's discovery of recession of distant galaxies, which had the appearance that the Universe originated in an enormous explosion, since everything was apparently racing away from our own location with steadily increasing speed with increasing distance and led to the postulate that the Universe must be bounded where recessional velocity equals the speed of light. This limit became known as Hubble's limit. The source of the Universal Microwave Background radiation discovered by Wilson and Penzias is closer than this.
The point that our own location was the center of cosmological expansion was also suggestive of optical illusion.
An important and more recent body of evidence for the big bang is the discovery of cosmic voids, which in the Sloan Foundation three dimensional model appear to be spherical voids surrounded by halos of galaxies with nothing at all inside. In this model, which is supported by observational evidence, rather than just one unitary big bang, there were apparently several hundred within the limit of the visible. In this model, the Earth, the Solar System and the Milky Way Galaxy no longer appear to be the center of cosmological expansion, instead our local center is the Bootes Void, from which the Milky Way is receding radially.

OK! Errm, do you think that sometime in the near future, scientists will be able to invent a device wich means that we could travell in time???!!!

Its kind of like the state of progress in space flight we had back during the 1930s. A good generalized agreement with aeronautics enthusiasts that we might have the technology for space flight some day, but of course that was something to come in the remote future.

Geometry.Net - Scientists: Airy George
Past Astronomer Royal, Sir George Airey, made some important early contributions to the theory of time in context of his efforts to prove the impossibility of perpetual motion machines. Though he was able to demonstrate a thermodynamic closure in three dimensions of space, his extension of the diagram into time failed and had to wait for Albert Einstein, who showed that it was possible to incorporate time into the diagram by means of application of an inverse square law.
Airey was an important contributer to the underpinnings of relativity.

Airey is worth study if only on the carefully rigorous form of his statements. Also, he laid the foundations of the work of many who came after him.

Well I like to read the series of books called the 'point horror' books. Eventhough they don't sound like thrillers they don't half make you jump! I am awiting permission to watch I am legend; I am guessing that you alredy know about it?!

I'd heard a little about "I Am Legend", in a genre with George Stewart's "Earth Abides", but I rarely see movies before they are aired on television. I didn't know anything at all about the Point Horror stories until I saw your mention. Found quite a lot of amusing listings.
