Salamander the Mugwump

How's it going? Don't bother to reply in Spanish. I had to look that up on the back of my old Santana Abraxas album (which I haven't managed to find on CD yet). Just thought I'd come an have a peek at your page. smiley - smiley

How's it going Plaguesville. Just popped over to say Hi. I think you may be on holiday. I see no recent signs of activity here. If so, hope you're having a good time. smiley - smiley

Hi, and thanks for your visit.
Yes we've been on hollies (pretty good - thanks) and since returning I've not felt able to conduct any sensible postings even when I've been allowed to get at the keyboard. Then a couple(?) of ISPs started behaving strangely and dropping out mid-posting so I wasn't sure if they'd been sent / received and by the time I'd found out they'd provided extra mass for a black hole I'd forgotten what and who was involved.
Heigh ho.
Just before I trolled off I noticed that you got an honourable mention in one of the categories of:
http://www.h2g2.com/info
and I see that you are there again. Congratulations.
My daughter asked me concerning "mugwump". I explained the fencesitting thing and then remembered from the deeper recesses "Fudge the Elf", wasn't it? Had a friend called "Speckle"? And there was a bulbous swamp dwelling creature "the Mugwump" which menaced one or other of them sporadically? It was a cartoon in black & white in perhaps the Manchester Evening News (or M. E. Chronicle) which put the wind up me. I didn't dare read it (even aged 10) before setting out to choir practice, only 150 yards from home and only the last 40 yds in the church yard and with my trusty ex-police torch with its 90 degree head so you could stick it in your belt and still see where you were going.
I ramble therefore I am back. Any of the foregoing seem familar?

Bonsoir, ma jolie!

There you are. I thought you must have been abducted by aliens. Glad you enjoyed your hols. ISPs huh? You can't trust them. I hope the black hole they chucked your postings into isn't anywhere near this neighbourhood - of the galaxy I mean.

I didn't know about that page with all the statistics. They put me in the garrulous gas-bag section (where, in all fairness, I belong). I'm in there twice today. I was a bit shocked to find myself there yesterday but now I'm used to the idea and comforting myself that I'm not near the top of the list. If there are any more little gems like that, be sure to let me know about them - please. smiley - smiley

I know nothing of this cartoon of which you speak. It sounds a bit like The Three Billy Goats Gruff with the Troll (foll de roll) under the rickety rackety bridge only in different costumes. I'm gratified to know I was able to inspire you with terror as a child, but really, it wasn't my intention. I just found Mugwump in the dictionary years ago and liked the sound of it. It was originally a native American word meaning chief or very important person and it's sort of degenerated into a word meaning someone who thinks they're important - as I do. Doesn't hurt anyone else if I delude myself with such nonsense, does it?

You loved that torch, didn't you? I bet you still have it, or wish you did.
