Which smiley?

I wonder if the moderators are sick and fed up with having to do this and knowing how much they are hated and detested?
Here, moderators.
Help yourselves.

AGB honey, hated and detested are very strong words.
It's not fair to think like that about the people who are only trying to make a living. And if people didn't break the rules, they would not have anything to do.
Although the temptation to put URLs in because we know it will take them 30 mins to get to it is there all the time.
Why aren't you answering on msn btw?

Hi AGB.
Did you *really* mean to post that? It's not terribly becoming behaviour of an Ace... but worse, it's really worrying to see *you* post 'hate' messages like that. We're concerned!
As far as I can tell, people don't hate or detest the Moderators - at least, those at the party didn't really have a problem with them. Sure, there are people who don't like *moderation*, but that's different. The Moderators are really nice people just like you, trying to earn a living.
on it, eh?
Mark

Don't those smileys excuse everything though?
Seriously, I read that message as meaning that other people claim to "hate or detest" the moderators, not that AGB feels hatred towards them.
Police in real life are sometimes "hated" by citizens they allegedly protect. Passing along that idea does not mean that I as messenger hate police. (Although the "allegedly" probably screws up any illusion of neutrality. Q** ser@ ser@.)

Although all this moderation might be new to us, the problem of strained relations between workers and customers is most assuredly not a new one. I'm thinking of my many months of experience serving tacos to drunk teenagers honking at the drive-thru window of a certain fast food establishment.
At my current job, I've heard angry librarians (our main microfilm customers) complain at me for not getting some worthless, obscure "Bulletin of the International String-Figure Association" (devoted to mathematical studies of Cat's Eye and other children's string games) microfilmed in a timely fashion. It doesn't help to explain to them that we haven't received enough orders in the last 15 years to make it worthwhile microfilming the title they want. (By the way, that title is just an example of an esoteric publication. I'm not sure whether it's been filmed lately or not.)
Anyhow, we should just count ourselves lucky that moderators can't spit in our food...

I don't know, Subcom... Does the "no spitting" rule apply to staff, or just researchers? I'd check your just to be sure...

Hi Mark and Mina
Re post 22;
I was replying to post 20 on the previous page.
I was actually defending the moderators and I apologize if it read like I hated and detested them, when I don't.
What I meant to say was that moderation is "not liked" - and I used too strong language, and then I offered the moderators some nice things as I don't envy their job.
I hope this clears things up

I'm sorry for misunderstanding you AGB.
I'm ashamed that someone else knew what you meant and I didn't.
But I'm glad that's cleared up.

No problem Galaxy Babe! That explains it then. Phew! I thought you must have been having a really bad day or something, but that makes it clear. Thanks.
Have some cake!

Sorry, AGB, didn't mean to ignore you. The post that got squelched, got me a warning and inspired Peta and several others to quit the Zaphodistas happened about a month or two ago, before DNA passed away. For more details, search for a conversation thread on the Zaphodista page A520769 titled "turning in my beret" or "dropping beret" or something like that.
I wrote a message on DNA's welcome page, comparing DNA's invitation for researchers to write "your opinions on world events" versus the rough draft of the h2g2 UK General Election policy, which said something like "Discussions of the UK General Election will be removed."
This protest was seen as potentially scaring off new researchers, in spite of the fact that my posting also said something like, "Please don't quit just yet. Help us return h2g2 to the kind of open community that Douglas Adams originally envisioned." [The full text of the message that was removed can be found on n2g2.]
It debatably fell under the category of "flaming" or "trolling." I still don't feel there was anything wrong with it. If they didn't want comments on the DNA-welcome page, then there should have been no "Discuss this entry" at the bottom of the page.

Hi Subcom.
I'm sorry I really don't have the strength to go searching for threads.
Please forgive me.
The last 48 hours have been pretty rough, both RL and VL for me.
I am happy with my h2g2 just the way it is.
Without the BBC we would have no h2g2.
And that just doesn't bear thinking about.
Without h2g2 in my life, the friends I've made, and the escapism from my {sometimes abominable} RL, my life would not be worth living.
There are times I feel I cannot face another day, so I come here and I find something that makes me count my blessings.
I can live with a few restrictions.
Long live h2g2.

once again i find myself about a week behind whats happening...
i cant say that i was well known to androyd by any stretch, but what i can say is that the first posting to my fledgling personal space had his "London Calling....." header. he encouraged me to write that first entry and submit it to peer review, and I ventured forth from there.
he was always one of those guys that you felt reassured was there. and now he's not.
CENSORSHIP CORRUPTS
Researcher 205156 Posted Oct 2, 2002
HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!! NEED INPUT FOR A PROJECT!!!!
"The ultimate form of censorship is death." -George Bernard Shaw
I believe that quote pretty much sums the whole idea up. I am doing a research project for school from a book a read. I read 1984 and have decided to discuss CENSORSHIP and how it actually corrupts the society rather than saving it. I feel that it is the act of censorship that creates the negative images of society. It lures society to do the wrong thing. I need ALOT of help with a great thesis and alot of topics to discuss to prove my point. PLEASE HELP ME. I greatly appreciate any input. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH.
