First up was the caged canary in the coalmine;
now we measure the resultant CO2 levels in air as an indicator of other hidden (harder to measure) menaces and their long term effects.
Gorillas in the mist are, I can't help but think, a fairly useful indicator of our precarious primatic presence.
As Africa is forced to change with the world, elements of humanity are slipping away without record. Mother tongues are drying up, beliefs evaporate and guerillas guzzle gorillas.
Nobody knows what happens in Africa. Maps dont help.
