Tea Parties and Memories

All my life I have collected stuffed animals. They are in stacks around my room and in boxes in the hall closet, on my bed and in chairs scattered every which place. As a child the magical world they opened to me seemed a place to hide from the abuse of a mother to mentally ill to care for children and a father who was barly keeping himself together. As a young woman I saw them as supports for the tears I cried over the loss of a home and pets and family. As a grown adult I see them as memories for the childhood denied me by a dysfunctional family and blinding anger. But every year, at Easter time, I know that instead of the traditional candy children recieve, it is tradition for me to wake and see a new stuffed animal in my doorway. Small or large, fat or skinny... it doesn't matter so long as it is cute. These toys are the rememberences of worlds and dreams I dared to kling to as a child and now as an adult. Surely each person has one thing, one minor object or possession which endears them to the world of Nod where a girl can be a princess and a boy a knight, where adults tread in dreams and memories of tea parties in the sun and battling imaginary worlocks in the backyard. Just a thought, a memory... a story begging to be set free on the world - a reminder for all those who would like to forget. Childhood and magic, fairytales and make-believe of tea parties and memories in the summers of enchantment and dreams.

Microsoft Joke from a Friend

YODA: A Programmer’s strength flows from his Computer. But beware of the dark side. GUI… ActiveX… IE4. The dark side of the Computer are they. Easily they flow, quick to join you in a program. If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will, as it did Obi-Wan’s apprentice.

LUKE: Bill. Is the dark side stronger?

YODA: No… No… No. Start Button, Drag and Drop, more seductive.

LUKE: But how am I to know the good side from the bad?

YODA: You will know. When you are calm, at peace. Using Linux. A Programmer uses the Computer for stability and power, never for supporting an evil monopoly.

LUKE: But tell me why I can’t…

YODA: (interrupting) No, no, there is no why. Nothing more will I teach you today. Clear your mind of questions. Mmm… Mmmmmmmm…

The End Has Come...

So, I'm done! I'm free! And I'm bored out of my mind! In case you have no idea what I'm talking about I just finished my first year of college... I'm back home in PA, USA in a town in the middle of no where, and I have nothing to do. Sure, I intend to get a joy, but for now I've haven't got any interviews or a job and thus I'm bored out of my mind. It's nice to have TV again, but the same reruns are on that were on 9 months ago and the radio is playing the same old songs from the "80', 90's and Today"... The only thing I have to look forward to is my brother's graduation from high school next month and the possibility of my current love intrest dropping by to say "hi" on his way to Texas! *Sigh* Maybe its just nice to have something to complain to instead of leaving myself to my own thoughts, which are dangerous I might add. So, for now... I take pride in the fact that I made it through finals and a year away from home without too much of a nervous break down. And in 3 months, I'll look forward to returning to what has become my new home, instead of where I currently am. A toast to the end of a year, the end of a magnificent year where we all learn a lot and will treasure the memories forever! Salute!

Explaining Life...

I must admitt that my school year is not at a close, however with spring (and allergies) in the air, I feel it necessary to begin to turn my thoughts to going home. A summer of waiting tables awaits, noisy customers and poor tips... *sigh* A girls got to do what a girls got to do. Cheer up all, the school year is almost over, take heart in that fact. Go play in the sun (if you've got any) and soak up some rays for the girl sneezing in Boston, staring out the window and smiling.

Poetry to go home by...

The papers are done,
The homework is turned in.
The books are read
And the tests are taken.

The bags are packed,
The paperwork completed.
The boxes are loaded
And rooms are clean.

The phone is unplugged,
The computer broken down.
The refridgerator sits alone
And the closet is cleared out.

The students are gone for the summer,
The guards sit in empty dorms.
The faculty-in-residence sigh,
The cleaning staff cheers.

My friends are gone,
My things are loaded in the car.
I look around for the last time,
What am I missing?

My freshman year is at a close,
Gee how the time flew!
I say goodbye to academics for a while,
And gather up the courage to lock the door.

In slips the key,
Click says the lock.
Whirrr sounds the elevator,
As is greets me with a thump.

Slam goes the car door,
The engine begins to purr.
Goodbye home, if only for a short time,
Goodbye friends and community.

I shall return again,
In three months time once again.
The city awaits my return,
Until then silence presides over the dorms.

The guards will sit in empty buildings,
The faculty-in-residence will have peace.
The cleaning staff will set to work,
And the city will patiently wait our return...
