Grr. And Bah.
Posted Apr 23, 2000
Something has just made me very angry.
I was watching the news today and it was mentioned that the Norwegians are wanting to lift the ban on whaling because most whale species are on the way to recovery from endangerment. This is actually being taken very seriously, expecially since some African countries who want to bring back the ivory trade will support Norway.
I found myself shouting at the radio. You idiots. Just because whales and elephants aren't about to die out anymore, does this mean they have to be hunted again? A species doesn't have to live on a permanent knife edge, on the brink of extinction, you know.

Musings
Posted Apr 20, 2000
I've just read that in Adam Smith's home town, some of the people still used nails as currency. This had raised three issues in my mind.
1) Did they use metal nails or finger/toe nails?
2)Why on earth did they use nails anyway?
3)In order to eliminate confusion, don't you think that there ought to be a different spelling for one of the meanings of the word 'nail'? Maybe the things on the ends of your digits could be called 'nales' instead. Then, at least, things would be somewhat clearer. In speech, though, the problem would still remain.
Hmm...

Okay, to anyone out there who's listening; why is life so darned complicated?
Tomorrow is going to be a horrible-nightmare-day-from-the-pits-of-hell.
In the morning I have to deal with the asinine administration of my bank, then I have to cook lunch, then juggle commitments to friends tomorrow night so that no-one is upset or offended, and probably get two hours sleep.
I'm not used to this hectic thing. I've just had 3 weeks of hefty relxation and now I have to kickstart my brain again.

Just thinking about Kevin Carter...
Posted Apr 16, 2000
Saw a documentary just now that my parents had on tape from a while back, about Kevin Carter, the photographer for "Time" magazine, who killed himself because he couldn't deal with what he was photographing, and why he was doing it. It affected me really deeply, that someone could feel so strongly about something, and could be so affected by something, that he'd even go so far as to kill himself. I can't stop thinking about it.
There's a Manic Street Preachers song that springs to mind:
"The Elephant is so ugly
He sleeps his head machetes his bed
Kevin Carter, Kaffir lover forever
Click-click-click-click-click, click himself under..."
That's what I'm thinking about, at this ungodly hour. I don't think I'll sleep much tonight. "Too much to drink, too much to say..."
Don't you just love quoting song lyrics?

I've just been kicked out...

...of my friend's room because her boyfriend was there. They were dropping hints like crazy so I hung around for as long as I could but in the end I left them alone. You have to, don't you? I hate it though - I mean, I'm bored now...
