Whilst reflecting on your thoughtful and informative poem I witnessed your welcome to your old friend.
How fortunate that you should have a useful pot for keeping things in and that you have been given some hunny to keep in it. What is more, I am sure that dear old Pooh will be able to solve your worry about how to get all of the hunny out.
Some days are better than others.
It's clearly not a Thursday.

Eeyore

Hi there, plaguesville. smiley - smiley Noticed a few of your postings, including this one.

While I’m very much an AA Milne fan, I chose the handle ‘Eeyore’ for Hitchhiker reasons, too. Douglas Adams claimed that he based Marvin the Paranoid Android on a friend, but his mother said the Marvin character was Eeyore. I’m more inclined to believe his mother. People have accused me of wandering about saying that life is unfair (which it is), and claiming to have a brain the size of a planet (which I deny).

When I first came onto h2g2, I realised that there were likely to be Marvins around, but Eeyores seemed pretty thin on the ground. Although I subsequently discovered there was a previous Eeyore who has now left.

By the way, where did you get ‘plaguesville’ from?

H'mm,
Hadn't thought of the Eeyore / Marvin similarity.

Plaguesville, where is it? More significantly, where are you? That is rhetorical but possibly relevant.
I shall start with the short answer. (Short by my standards.)
August '99 got naff PC for internet connection (so we could see my wife's photo on school website (!) - Governor shows children how to spill flour on clssroom floor) cheaper than upgrade for beloved Acorn. Tried family names for email address but they were all allocated and was offered ...76 and such like. "I am not a number, I am a free man." Tried street name - Eyam - with same result. So, paraphrased it.
This is where your locality becomes relevant. If you are not familiar with with the name, (pronounced "Eem" by the cognoscenti, or "Eeyam" by the rest of us) you are in danger of receiving the long answer.
You have been warned.smiley - bigeyes

I see that your thought for the day is literally that. Mammoth task even for a brain the size of ... What dedication.
After the flattery, someone (forgot to check who) mentioned the "Archers" thought. Was it Radio 4 Archers, what I have followed ever since before Poor Grace (nee Lawson - Hope?) met her sad end to upstage ITV. If so, would you be prepared to reveal it to a late arrival?

Haven't yet read your stories, but I shall soon; looking forward to that. But I keep getting lost or sidetracked & sometimes both at the same time.

Regards,smiley - winkeye

Hi Plaguesville. smiley - smiley Glad you appreciate Eeyore’s Thought for the Day.

The “Archer” thought you mentioned, wasn’t a reference to that much loved BBC radio programme, but the much-beleaguered Jeffrey. As you weren’t around at the time, I will make an exception and (for the first time) repeat a Thought for the Day, which happened on the 6 April:

“If Lord Archer ends up with a prison sentence, it will be extremely badly written.”

Worth repeating, that one.

As for my location: I’m from Liverpool, but I’ve been camped out in Putney, London, for the last 20 years due to work. My real hope is to return to within earshot of the Mersey – a dream that comes ever closer thanks to the Internet and Email.

I’m a Mac user, so you have my sympathy for your Acorn to PC story. Although, I have to say, it’s much easier to get software for the PC than the Mac. But I wouldn’t change.

Completely applaud your reference to Patrick McGoohan’s dislike of numbers. Feel free to read the stories.

PS I’m still a little mystified by the name “plaguesville” and “Eyam” . . . oh dear, I’ve done it now, haven’t I? smiley - smiley
