I just wanted to thank you for your Thought For The Day concerning the appalling Archer, which made me laugh so loudly that I suspect the people in the adjoining flats to mine are more convinced than ever that I am thoroughly insane. But I don't mind. It was worth it. smiley - smiley
BTW, do you really support both Liverpool and Everton? I mean - is that allowed!? If so, it must lead to a lot of awkward explanations!

Yes. Eeyore is very unconventional in cheering both Everton and Liverpool.

Strictly speaking, I’m an Evertonian. And the conflict only arises on derby match days – when Everton play their heart out and usually win.

I don’t believe that supporting one team means putting the other team down. In Liverpool, there are plenty of Liverpudlians who hate Everton and vice versa – but I don’t see the point.

Take this weekend, for instance, as an Evertonian, I obviously want Everton to beat Leicester – but I’d have to be a dreadful Scouser to want Spurs to beat Liverpool.

Living and working in London these days, I hardly ever get to see a match, but it’s still in my blood. Shankley was right to say Football was more important than Life and Death – but that was before Hillsborough.

When it comes to such a sad football event – the deaths of those two lads in Istanbul – an Everton and Liverpool scarf side-by-side somehow seems right to me.

BTW, I used to live in Holloway, too – back of the Sobell Sports Centre. Do they still advertise “Flying Fish” on Holloway Road? I always promised myself Flying Fish and Chips, but never got round to it.

Love your Home Page, and glad the Archer gag gave you a good laugh. And I hope Bradford beat Southampton.

Cheers Eeyore!

Thank you for the good wishes and the kind words about my page. Nice to know that someone appreciates it! I have just been reading a Bradford City mailing list/message board that I subscribe to, and was pleased to see that IRL someone has attached a Bradford scarf to the gate outside Elland Road. There has been a lot of bad feeling between the two clubs over the years, but at times like this the differences really should be set aside.
As you'll have gathered from my page, I too am an exile - hence my own dual loyalty. When I first relocated to London, I firmly believed that I could never love any team other than Bradford. But then I really started to miss my regular football fix. One fateful day in 1987 I decided to go and watch Orient, who were the nearest club to the place I then lived. Now, when I'm easily old enough to know better, I'm still a season ticket holder, and looking forward to the big relegation battle with the Chester City next Saturday!
I must say that I've never seen the Flying Fish sign, but I can see the appeal of flying smiley - fish and chips! Sadly, I probably won't be living in Holloway for much longer, since my landlord has just given me a month's notice.
Perhaps I'll move east again to be nearer the mighty Orient. smiley - bigeyes
