Talking of board games, have you ever played Chinese chess? It's really cool, they have a river down the middle and Emperors and stuff. Much more exciting than the western version.

Thank You! for you welcome. I check this site often but somehow missed your post!?!?! Sorry to take so long to respond. I'm still learning my way around, including what the journal section is all about. For instance, I would like to delete a journal entry that takes up space that I intended as a guide entry. I am a traditional chess player, but have little time to play right now. So I focus my attention on the origans of games. I have heard of chinese chess as well as shogi and shataranji. I would love to give all these a shot some day.

Unfortuanately there is currently no way of deleting journal entries... annoying isn't it Note that only the five most recent journal entries are shown on your user page, so when you've written five more recent ones the dominoes entry will be on a second page.
One of the H2G2ers, Pastey, is setting up a H2G2 chess thingy (a bit like postal chess but on H2G2) at http://www.h2g2.com/U113117 - it isn't working yet but should be soon. You could make yourself known in the forum there.
I personally haven't found the journal part of H2G2 very useful... the part of H2G2 that has really taken off is the forums. It's now partially a kind of community chat site as well as a reference site. There's still few enough people around to get to know who's around quite well. There's a link on the right hand site of the front page http://www.h2g2.com to the five most busy forums... these can be slightly confusing with bizarre references to doughnuts and fish... but are worth it!
