Evil Jeff

Hi. Thank you for welcoming me. I am not sure I quite understand this system yet, though. I think the main problem I've been having is that I don't understand HTML or XML programming.

I've been trying to work on my page and have a few questions.

1. Am I able to put pictures from my computer on my page? I noticed that other people had interesting pictures on theirs, and I couldn't figure it out. All I can find in the GuideML help areas are for putting picture/links on other webpages to h2g2. I want to be able to put pictures of Sam Kinison and such on my page.

2. Other people's links look smooth. So far all I have been able to do is make a link that simply shows the pages address. How do I make a link to another page with regular text, that does not necessarily show the address of the destination page?

I would really appreciate it if you could help me. Thank you.

I didn't know a bit of html until I got here, but I've managed to pick up a bit........

1. pictures - I don't know for sure, but I believe you have to link to a picture already on the web to get it to show up on your page. If you have a picture on your computer you want on your homepage, you would need to upload it to a site on the web. Lots of places offer free web sites where you could do this. I'm using Earthlink.net because they are my internet provider, but you might try sites like geocities, yahoo!, and so on.

2. links - the html way to do this is as follows:

Name you want to show up

This will give you a link to www.siteyouwant.com, and the link will say "Name you want to show up"

If you want to use guideML, use this:

Name you want to show up

The difference is the word "link" and the use of quotes with the web address. Oh, and using the guideML version should also put a link in your margin on the right. There is a way to avoid that, but I forget how.........

Hope this has helped. If not, you can always drop in on the guideML clinic:

and ask Bruce a few questions.

Good luck!
