I noticed you have put me on your friends list, so I have to ask, is because I said something interesting, or is it because I said something dreadful and you want to watch?!

Anyhow, hi, and is it Mount St Helens you said you can see from your window? Wow, thats both smiley - cool and smiley - yikes. I can see a car park and a sub-station, whoopee! I do get to see the birds who land on the roof oposite though, who sing to me, which is something when you are very view-deprived!

No,nothing dreadful, that's for sure...Rest assured...I may be confused(that's quite normal for me) but I feel KazSorrel & //(*.*)\\ are the same???... So first I was responding to post #4 in Rose Moon with this //(*.*)\\. That was a delight so I clicked on it to see where it would lead me....I went to your Gardeners Guild & bookmarked it....I liked "Todays News" & "A new way for Autism"..So I thought I would like to keep in touch with the part of the world you open .... Some years ago my daughter had a friend , who had a 10 year old son with Autism... When my 10 year old grandson,Jeff, would come to visit we would go & get John to join us...I found him to be very interesting....and Jeff was a very sturdy, strong boy with big warm brown eyes and a big smile and he was very comfortable with all people...It might be because his next door neighbor was a young man who had a diving accident and then was a parapaleglic....
and Jeff grew up being so helpful to him...
**** At this time of year I can not see Mt.ST.Helens because of all the trees...I can not even see my back fence..But in the winter time I can to go to the fence, stand on tiptoe and look down to the left...and can see it....But a very good view is to walk about 8-10 blocks East...There is a big freeway with an overpass bridge...with a perfect view....But it is often covered in clouds...We are in no real danger....and if it erupts the prevailing winds most often would take the ash to the Northeast...But in 1980 we did get a fair amount of ash falling a couple of times....You do not want to go ouside and breath it...and it is very hard on car carburetors...It looks very grey and eery coming down...
It was springtime and noon and it looked like it was snowing.and the street lights come on and give a glow and it looks like evening and all is quiet because no cars are going up & down the street.....and that ash is so fine like powder and seeps into every crack....By now ..and I like using that little face..//(*.*)\\ .. on my personal e-mail... OK??

fine and seeps into every crack....

Hi Gingersnapper

I am KazSorrel and //(*.*)\\ is normally called Mina. Its fun how these little journeys into conversations can lead us! Galaxy Babe wrote Rose Moon, you then found Mina (I hope she changes her name back again soon!) in her conversation and then Minas gardening guild. I wrote Todays News and A New Way for Autism! Thats the way to meet people and find things out!

I did find that news on autism fascinating and very encouraging.

It must be amazing to live near Mount St Helens, such a display of natures power there, and yet you feel safe! What a funny world we live in!

Hope to see you around and have a good weekend, we have a local outdoor concert with fireworks tonight and then a music festival to goto tomorrow!

Hi Gingersnapper

hope you had a good weekend.

Don't be put off with stroppy and feisty comments on my journal, myself and some friends are working through some rough patches, it doesn't mean I am always like this - honest!smiley - winkeye

This weekend we have another local festival with The Beat and Ska Cubano, its free and I am looking forward to it a lot. We have an Indian Mela on the Sunday - free again, its the time of year and its great!

Hi Kaz,.. .. Good to hear from you... I check in to h2g2 everyday...See what is going on...Love to read what everyone is talking about.and often find out what is going on in the world long before the evening news.....I am pretty stoic(I've been told) about a lot of things...I had a lot of upheavel and loss in my childhood. At the age of 9 after My Mother died of TB I was in a foster home with a very wise older lady who had a proverb for everything....You know,,Count your blessings.etc...So my 2 kids were raised on.."well, as Aunt Addie would say.......and a few choise ones of my own.....I am not too good at answering posts.....I owe a couple at this time....once I get going I can go on & on....and there is no spell checker here or on my browser...Firefox....Not that I have found anyway.....
I am quite outspoken, so I like to clear the air if I feel there are any misunderstandings...sometimes reading what others write can easily be misread....You never know with what "expression" it is going to be read....Take for example:: you are on the witness stand in a court room and you make the statement::..."I never saw him shoot her.".....Now see how you can change the meaning of that line by strongly emphasizing first the word "I"..read it again and only emphasize the next word....Can you see how the meaning changes...to almost endless possibilities ??.........
*** More about feeling safe in sight of MT,St.Helens...Even if a big eruption....Hot rocks do not fly 50 miles....This mountain is not the same as the ones in Hawaii..And it would not be safe to be in an area that is closed off...It is closely watched...and the scientest have instruments in the crater...The dome in the crater is pushed up 5 feet a day...the other day "on the news" they told us it split and rocks the size of a house came rolling down and caused an earthquake of 3.+..
and somtimes the instruments are destroyed...Sometimes the news helicopter will make a fly over and we get good views.....But not to fear....By now for today...Always good to hear from you... .

All things are going well, LIFE as usual, sometime up,sometime down a bit...It was nice of you to miss me...I stopped checking in because I could spend so much time here..Time flys so..I wish the day were longer....and one day turned into many...SO FAST!!..I love this place...I go to no other....Today,4/19/06, was the warmest day in 6 months..Spring is in the air...after a week of it being very cold...and I had a windfall of free firewood....I went for a walk last Saturday and up the street was a pile of wood by the roadside...Someone had pruned their tree..So I came back home & got my wheelbarrow....I really enjoyed that wood and my little fire....The stove has a nice sized glass window that I can look straight over at when I am here at my computer....smiley - cheers...I'll say goodnite now and promise to check in more often...Promise...and do let me know how you have been.......... smiley - bubbly .......

Hi Gingersnapper

nice to see you! smiley - hug

My stuff is a bit grim, I am finally getting treatment for my embarrassingly long list of problems. Which is great, but sometimes its all I ever seem to talk about.

So tell me more about you, I love hearing about the nature you have near you. What birds and animals do you get, do you get big insects?

I'm back again for a bit...Hope things have been going well for you...I am fine...Our Mountain( well it is really in the state of Washington,(not Oregon} which has Seattle and the space needle...If you have not heard of it let me know...I of course think it is as famous as the Eifel Tower....Well our Mountain has been very quiet and they have opened it up to hikers to hike up to the rim......We are having beautiful weather...warm & sunnie day after day....In answer to some of your questions.....We do not have big insects...little mosquitos..a few wasps and yellow jackets...They show up at picnic time because they like meat....Our ants are small, very tiney.....small spiders, only one of which can give you a nasty bite...They keep to them selves...I have never seen one....No poisonous snakes...I have not seen a little garter snake in the grass for years..The eastern part of the state does have rattlesnakes that you have to be aware of and watch out for....and there are a lot of thoes down south in Texas....But that is very far far away.....That is enough for tonite...Time flyes...Hope it is not too long before I return....By for now.... Take Care .....

I have heard of your mountain indeed! We have been watching a series about volcanos and it got a mention as did Yellowstone and all the usual suspects. Hopefully it will stay quiet for quite some time.

Talking of insects, I thought hornets were on the increase in our area. But it turns out to be a hornet clearwing moth, they look quite similar!

Hope everything is well for you and that you are in a rush because life is interesting and good to you! Bye for now and take care.smiley - runsmiley - magic

Good to hear from you Kaz....I do not know if we have hornets around here.... But the "fly in the oinment" around my neighborhood is the lady that throws bread in her yard and atracts a flock of crows..it looks unsightly.. and the crows are so noisy....She also has a flock of pigeons there also...Thank goodness she lives around the corner so I do not have to look at it all..She has no trees for them to roost in...But I have a very tall Douglas fir at my back door...SO!!..I go out and make a lot of noise banging tin pie plates toghether..!!.. to get them to fly somwhere else.... My son does not like me doing that....But...There is always "2 ways to skin a cat"....My computer is near the back door and I have iTunes...and when I put on Celtic music.... I like it very much....
But they leave....They do not like the bagpipes and pennywhistles,etc... It is nice to feed the birds... but not when you attract too many of one kind...Then it is nature out of balance...There just was an article in the newspaper about a farmer that was losing so much money to Starlings eating his berry crop..So he got a big hawk.. It flys around and the Starlings leave....They are not native here, but 100 years ago a man brought some to New York from England and they love it here..!!... By for now... smiley - bubbly ... .. . . .

So crows don't like bagpipes and penny whistles, thats the sort of useful information I may never have heard of otherwise! We try to feed the squirrels and the starlings and other birds but the pigeons always come and scare everything else off, they are also very bolshy. One sat on the magazine I was trying to read the other day and pooed on my rucksack. smiley - yikes

I like fast celtic-style music, with lots of bodran. Not really into the ballads, but I do love 'She moves the fair' I think its called that, sung over a simple drone. Anyway, I shall have a listen to that website, thanks!
