I suppose the point I'm making is that the T-shirt is a *symbol* of what somebody has done for h2g2, not an end in itself. It was a stupid point for roymondo to make in the first place: follow that kind of logic and nobody would start to offer incentives for anything. roymondo could always have dropped what he/she was working on and decided to go for the t-shirt. The fact they didn't says something.

Naww, Roymondo wasn't really serious, and he has accepted two challenges only a week or two ago. It was RG who upset me so much. But that's long done and dusted as far as I'm concerned, except if it flared up again after your post.

Well, the offer of a t-shirt was serious, if anyone wants it desperately enough. Might be a bit big for most people.

How that? Is it XXL then? And when did you get it? Was it at a meet? Did your team win the pub quiz? Which meet was it that you went to?

Oh, I took part in some discussions about the future of the site and made some suggestions. I had no idea that there was a T-shirt at the end of it for me.
I've only ever been to 2 meets and that was the local ones.

East Midlands - Nottingham/Leicester/Derby - the Three Cities as they are known.

I have a vague idea where Nottingham is, but would have to look at a map to be sure. Are they all so close then that they're known as The Three Cities? Do they form a triangle or something?

Felonious Monk - h2g2s very own Bogeyman Posted Mar 16, 2007
They've become known as such recently, really. Derby and Nottingham are about 15 minutes from each other and both are about 30mins from Leicester. Nottingham is quite pretty, Leicester less so, and Derby is a bit of a dump, to be honest. Good pubs, though.
Wherebaouts do you live?

I seem to recall having heard some quite unpleasant things about Nottingham, but I may err. I live in Frankfurt/Main. Its reputation isn't all that good, but it's actually quite nice to live here. There are so many pubs, bars, restaurants here that I only know a few. We do have an Irish pub near where I live, but I haven't been there for about a year or so.

Those unpleasant things are probably the one's I've heard. Escalating gun crime is one of them. The city centre is actually quite excellent for shopping, restaurants and nightlife, but there *is* a lot of crime and drunkeness, admittedly.
I haven't been to Germany for years. I like the country 'though and I have liked all the Germans I've met so far.

Where in Germany have you been? (I'll probably have to consult a map when you tell me, my geographical knowledge is not what it should be.) And so far, I've liked all English people I've met.

Koblenz, Bonn and Koln, and that was on a school trip thirty years ago.

Oh, good, I know where that is. Bonn must be very boring, from what I've heard. I guess if it hadn't been our capital nobody would ever have gone there. I quite liked Cologne, but haven't been there for about 20 years. I've never been to Koblenz. I half expected you to say you went to the Black Forest, as that's where most people seem to go.

Coming back to the issue that triggered this thread off, this is my response to it: A25324382. It might be late in the day, but that's because I originally thought I'd let it lie, but now looking at what's been happening recently I can't stay quiet.
It will, however, be submitted to the proper place: the Post.

Hi, I haven't read the whole piece yet. I think this phenomenon isn't just reduced to Britain, look anywhere in Europe this summer and you'll see the extremes.
I'm sure it will be a good article for .

I still hear the tune chiming in my ears, three weeks on.
The Moronic Inferno got into the Post after all this week. I've never had my writing described as being 'inimitably acerbic' beforehand.

Ha - now there's an effect at least. Count yourself lucky that you never heard the version I recorded. Originally, that was thought to become part of the AVIator scheme, but I couldn't motivate Roymondo to record the tune on his guitar so we could have put it all together; and just my voice is too feeble.
Never mind, it's probably not the best of my entries anyway, in fact, I had the impression it's one of the weakest so far, so drawing attention to it is the last I'd want to do.
Inimitably acerbic? Look on the bright side, you got a mention in the editorial.

Oh - and it's linked to from the FP - not too bad for a one off, I'd say.
