Are you and ACE, Joanna? If not, why not apply for the job? You seem to have all the credentials.

I got one a couple of days ago. *five year olds voice* When I grow up I want to be a Sub-Editor. *back to seventeen year old*.
I spent about an hour doing the Sub-Ed exercises, making sure that I had covered everything. I'm still not sure it I did manage to eradicate every mistake...

Good luck. I'd find editing much too hard... *look of respect*... I developed a scanning habit, and I can completely fail to read mistakes I do not want to see.
How's the Necromancing?

The Necromancy stuff's a bit dead at the moment (*cymbal crash*)...
Editing isn't so difficult. All you need is a spell checker with a UK English dictionary (so that it actually gets the spellings right) and a good sense of direction and humour.
*sits back lazily as he lets Word do all the work with it's wiggly lines, and then transfers forum entry to textbox*

I suppose... I have no sense of direction, though. ACEing is much more the thing for me... and I spend so much time online anyhow.
To tell the truth, editing sounds a bit too much like *work*
Those wiggly lines are irritating, I find, and word doesn't understand science words. I wonder if one could sell dictionary add ons for things like word, with specialised words included....

There are three reasons why Microsoft don't do that:
1) It's a very good idea;
2) It would be useful;
3) Bill Gates is far too busy trying to buy the National Lottery to sit down and figure out how to screw another fifty quid out of the general public.
It's not so much work as the power rush you get from rejecting articles that are a pile of absolute rubbish.
Could I divine from your last post that you are either a Science student somewhere or a scientist in some top-secret government lad where they do bugger@ll work, thereby allowing all the employees to spend all their time on fab websites?

I'm a student of Biology. Well, anatomy with a smattering of physiology, anyway...
And it is DEFINITELY an obsession
