My name is Feisor and I am an ACE (Assistant Community Editor) here at h2g2. It's my job to welcome you to the site and hopefully show you around a little. I AM a real person, not an automated reply not an automated reply not an automated reply .
Welcome to h2g2 – not just the friendliest on-line community but an incredibly huge, living, breathing guide to Life, the Universe and Everything. It’s compiled by researchers just like you and it's something YOU can take part in. You can write entries on all manner of subjects, and if it's something you think would look good in our Edited Guide (where all the best research goes), you can submit it to Peer Review Take a look at the <./>writing-guidelines</.> for more information on that.
I hope when you get to know us a little better you'll open your personal space and tell us a little about yourself - but there's no rush - and it's not compulsory
We ACEs are volunteers here to assist new researchers so if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.
You can leave a message on my space just by clicking on my name at the top of this message or by hitting the reply button below - it won't hit back (usually).
I have made a "Hints and Links for New Researchers" page at <./>A719840</.> - if you go there it will lead you to all sorts of places which will help find your way around and get to know this wonderful place. It should keep you busy for a while
Oh, and don’t forget to bookmark not only your space but the H2G2 <./>FrontPage</.> - it’s a great way to stay in touch with what’s happening and leads to all sorts of corners which you may otherwise miss.
Do some exploring and you'll find that the site has everything from the nonsense japing to debates on any number of diverse subjects. Many lasting friendships and relationships have been born on hootoo. It's kind of an online pub and encyclopaedia.
I am sure that you will love this community as much as we do There's lots of things to see, clubs to join and people to meet - please don't be shy - just jump right in - this is a friendly place. But be careful - it can become quite addictive - believe me I know
Enjoy!!
Have fun!!!
and above all !!!
Feisor

It's been a surprisingly wet summer here - we've had floods - but no one is complaining because of the drought we've had.
Today is a glorious sunny day with blue cloudless skies .... so why am I sitting here talking to you - I should be out there soaking it all up ....

Hi Feisor, Global warming is causing a lot of problems. Im glad you have had some rain as your farmers have really suffered. Strange that our farmers have had too much rain plus poultry with diseases<

Here in Oz it's all tied in with the El Nino - though it's the way of our land - "Droughts and flooding rains..."
Farmers do it tough no matter where they are, and seem to be unappreciated regardless of their efforts. Fashions in farming change, just as fashions in clothing change. We are, thankfully, experiencing a growth in the sustainable and ecologically sound farming movement, but one wonders whether it's all not a case of "too little, too late"

Hi Feisor, In the UK, theres big moves towards organic farming and buying meat & veg from local farmers. The only downside is that its more expensive. Battery farming is awful though.

It's a bit different here because the distances are so much greater, but farmers' markets are growing in popularity and we must keep remembering that even the longest journey starts with a single step

Hi Feisor, I like your philosophy. Australia is a vast continent...I think Australians call it Gods Own Country. I dont know whether I could cope with your spiders and snakes!!!

"Gods Own Country" ? Don't know that I've heard it called that - I think that "The Lucky Country" is more often used.
Spiders and snakes - nothing to worry about, it's a story that we tell the tourists to keep them in line
I live in the city and the spiders we have here are (mostly) harmless - and I've never seen a snake running wild around here, unless it's my neighbour's pets. He's head of reptiles at the zoo and they're not venomous anyway.
The poisonous ones you might run into in the wild are frightened of humans and will avoid contact. Snakes, like most animals, will only attack if threatened and we've developed antidotes for most nasty bitey things
You are in more danger of being run over by a bus that you are of dying of spider or snake bite.
Have you guessed yet? I love spiders and snakes

Hi Feisor, I think the tale of funnel web spiders lurking under the seat of the 'dunny' has got to us Brits . I'm not too keen on big hairy spiders but can deal with them if I have too. I like snakes and have held a couple of pythons(don't know if any of them was called Monty though!!!).
It's still pretty cold here and there's snow forcast for Friday but where I live, we haven't had hardly any snow in the past few years .
Here's to warmer weather
