Dear Æ
I think what you're seeing is actually how the system works for an Entry while it is in Peer Review.
When an Entry is sent to one of the review forums, the relevant conversation is found by clicking on the link in the right hand side bar. At the moment, if you look for:
Written and Edited by
AE Hill
Currently in:
Peer Review
go here to take part in the Peer Review process
You will find the conversation.
At the end of the review process your Entry will be 'selected' for editing and removed (by me) and forwarded to a sub editor. This is the point that the system attaches the conversation to the foot of the original entry itself. That's how the Edited Guide Workshop conversation was put at the foot of the Entry.
I know this sounds complicated!
Some helpful FAQs - A77393406
You join us while we are rebuilding the site entirely. We have a long and curious history, so we have heritage versions of the site (referred to as 'skins') as well as the new version I think you're using. The new version 'Pliny' is ideal for our thousands of readers to use, but for writing purposes it may be better to switch to either Brunel or Alabaster. Go to Preferences (top bar) to see the drop down menu for switching.
One error which we have (only in Pliny) is that when you include a link to a conversation, it throws up an error and the whole of the post in Pliny says 'There has been an issue with rendering this post, please contact the editors.'
However, if you use the A number of Entries by themselves there is no problem.
I am sorry for the inconvenience, but you join us at a very interesting time when the volunteers are midway through the rebuild. Don't hesitate to post any more questions you have, and thanks for asking this one.

You are very helpful, thanx for all your attention.
I did switch skins to Brunel [just as my ACE suggested before I left the workshop]
I will evoke the excuse that I am a newbie to explain that I failed to notice that my skin changed back without my explicit action to make that change.
Sorry I am such a annoyance.
At least my motives are as advertized.
Oops, I checked as I wrote this message and my preferences still say Brunel
but my view still looks to me [the newbie] like the new default, Pliny.
I now notice there is a "User Mode," Basic or Advanced.
Should I even ask?
As a technologist in days past, I understand it is difficult it is to change older designs or minds
...many engineers demand starting with a clean sheet of paper.
A toilet paper roll gets used up in a big hurry.
I hope you don't run out... of patience that is.
Thanx Again,
Æ

You're welcome Æ - I am glad to be of service.
Myself, I like using Pliny to read Entries and to answer messages in conversations. However, 'my preferences' have Alabaster selected. So I bookmark a link to my personal space - and don't log out of h2g2. Therefore I can return at one click to the page of conversations - in Alabaster.
I keep a separate bookmark (and tab) for the front page of h2g2.com as I like to keep an eye on it! If you do look at the front page you will be switched to Pliny, so you need to click the preferences tab to switch you back again. The same thing happens when you log out, you'll be redirected to Pliny again.

FYI,
oo, oo, I just had a brainstorm.
I have found that I get an "Oops" message sometimes.
Then I noticed that if I try again, I usually get what I wanted.
Sometimes I have to try multiple times.
I then suspected that because I am half way around the world [Hawaii], my browser is "timing out," but that is not right because it is h2g2 that is throwing the "Oops" message.
I would assume that your server has limited bandwidth [and all the more limited in your new situation]. To keep my browser from timing out, h2g2 may preempt such an event with its own error message.
I know all this is speculation, but I offer it to you as a lead to help h2g2 track down the real problems and in finding good solutions.
With Great Respect,
Æ

thanks - I'll mention this to the tech guys.
Hawaii - that's a place that sounds and looks so beautiful. Have you always lived there?

You said: "Hawaii - that's a place that sounds and looks so beautiful." "Have you always lived there?"
It is often said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
So, I guess you will just have to come and visit to really answer your question.
For me, it even better than:
http://h2g2.com/oldblobs/white/2070119.gif
Perhaps is not quite as nice as:
http://youtu.be/uBLccEDmn40
Still that video fails to capture the smell of Plumeria wafting great distances in the morning air or the refreshingly warm temperatures of the Ocean here.
Sure there are negatives, but in my balance, I am happy to find Kauai my home.
I have long been an explorer by nature.
There were times I drove four hours to spend four hours in the awe inspiring beauty of Yosemite and then drove four hours back to my domicile.
http://youtu.be/_QqfifH3-rk
That was before I moved to Hawaii late in 1995.
I now live on the small island of Kauai.
Kauai is only some fifty miles from end to end.
I was very concerned I would be one to get “rock fever.”
Over time, some people who move here, begin to feel a need to go further than an Island would allow, that is “rock fever.”
One of my favorite things is show new-comers my Island. I am also an artist and I make a professional point to spend considerable time in the most beautiful places on the Island.
One often overlooked gem is: http://ntbg.org/gardens/allerton.php
I was born in Kansas City, lived in San Fernando Valley, Santa Clara Valley, Biloxi Mississippi, the Connecticut River Valley, Spokane Washington, the Snake River Valley in Idaho, the Island of Oahu, and now I live on the Island of Kauai.
I have visited most of the USA and I have visited London, München, Zurich, and Tokyo.
Although I still explore, I now I rarely leave Kauai.
So now ya know the rest of the story.
Thanks for asking.

I am flattered by such a fulsome reply! And with pictures too.
It's no secret that I have a home on a tiny island in the Atlantic, far away from where I am now - which I am missing very much at the moment. It is probably a similar size to Kauai, but without natural water and so completely lacking in greenness apart from some very drought resistant vegetation. I suppose that was behind my nosy questions, so thank you for telling me. I know what you mean about rock fever, but when that happens to me I fly back to the UK to spend time with my family here.
I do hope you enjoy meeting some of the other h2g2 community, we need new writers who can come up with original contributions and I am delighted that you're persevering in Peer Review.
Anyway its the middle of the night here, so I really should be asleep.
goodnight!

Morning!
I noticed that you'd written A87770299 - if you'd like some comment on this piece then the best place to submit it would be the Alternative Writing Workshop, and from there it could be selected for the Post.
This is the link to the AWW A608799
Thanks for writing this, there are some comments I could make, but the best place for those would be if the article was placed into a review forum

Thank you [again].
I did not think that piece was domesticated enough to be offered to readers in general.
Perhaps you agree and that is why you made your suggestion to me.
by your suggestion [and only by your suggestion] I will do as you say.
That piece was an effort to develop some personal conformity.
I found myself rebelling at what I imagined to be the future for my efforts here.
Where is my towel?
After all I did admit, "I seem to be naturally irreverent."

I think your latest piece makes some excellent points and I'd like to see it get wider readership. ( that's sort of my job here)
You must get to know Dmitri, another of the Guide Eds here, who is responsible for publishing the Post each week.
Here is one of his general pieces of advice. A86878949 - but he's written loads of different things, which you can read directly from his personal page here: U1590784
Key: Complain about this post
