I'm sub-editing your entry on helping lipreaders at A65193924. I've nearly finished, but was puzzled by the sentence I have highlighted in red. I don't know what exactly you were trying to say. Would you mind explaining or rephrasing it?

"usually because two words or phrases look exactly like something else entirely."


-----> usually because a word or phrase looks, to the lipreader, exactly like a completely different word or phrase (and therefore with entirely different meaning).


I was trying to explain this with the example slightly lower down, using numbers.

This is something that causes great confusion in our house, when we know we have told mum something, but she has misread/misunderstood.

another example of this would be when we say something like

"We can't take you shopping this morning"

We can take you shopping this morning"

- I get around this by shaking my head whenever I use a negative phrase -
